Which do you prefer, and why?

I think SMB1,3 and SMW are more classic games than any of the 3d titles so, I'm going to have to go with them. SM64, Sunshine and Galaxy were all great, but they've aged pretty badly. Someone can play SMW right now and have just as much fun as they did back in 1991.

3D Mario. ezpz. Mario has his best shining moments when he has an extra dimension to play around in.

Though you can't deny how absolutely incredible his 2D experiences have been.

3D because those are the ones I played first (well technically I played the original first but I was very young, when I started my "gaming life" the 3D games were the first I played)

It's really hard to compare especially since they were all important to gaming as a whole. That said, I think they're both equally good in my eyes; it's really impossible to pick just one. But if I had to choose one to stick forever, it would be 3D cause it's more suiting to these days and makes up for some crazy and creative ideas.

3D Mario > 2D Mario

Mario64, Galaxy1+2, and 3D World are all better than any 2D Mario I've played

Even though Super Mario World is my fav Mario game, I prefer 3D Mario games overall.

Both are fun, but 2D Mario is getting a bit repetitive whereas 3D Mario can incorporate new elements in more unique ways so 3D for me

Very tough call for me, as both include some of the best games of all time in my opinion, but ultimately I chose 3D Mario, cos they tend to be easier.

Erm, this is tough for me as well. I love the freedom and challenge that comes from 3D Mario games, but I also love the simple, arcadey, pick up and play style of 2D Mario games. I love playing games like Mario 64, Sunshine and 3D World, but I can't constantly replay them like 2D ones. I never get tired of beating SMB3 and World.
