imo the best way to do ar would be attaching a 360 degree camera on a vr device and then overlay the image with something computer generated. i can't see this somewhat google glass technology work properly.

That Conker design is atrocious and the FOV on this device is terrible.

Look at the youtube like Vs dislike ratio, like 140 to 1400. Most comments on youtube like: "You know that happy feeling you get when you finally see one of your favorite franchises making an epic comeback in an all new game?? This isn't that feeling." |
AR for Traditional gaming probably not something any real developer wants to do but AR as a gaming device can be pretty exciting. Depending on the device, I wonder how hard it would be to create something like a Rebels vs Stormtrooper gamer where now you can see the laser rifle fire, throw a nerf grenade and see the explosion. Pull out some type of Sword or Bo and see the crackling of energy on the weapons ect.
Battlechess would also be something I probably would make myself. ANy CCG card game where each character and their is a hologram. I believe there is a ton of games that can be done with AR and done very well, its just that MS isn't doing anything to show those types of games just yet because Hololens at this point in time isn't really marketed as a gaming device.
OH GOD! CONKER!!! *GASP*............
What have you done Microsoft...? *whispers*

*Goes to bedroom*

I can't really see the appeal of this technology in the gaming world. It might be for some other uses, but this looks awfully bad. |
I can see the appeal and potential (if mixed with motion controls and neural technology) but the MS implementation is lacking a lot. Also, terrible conker redesign.

so vr...

Like the void?

Hunting Season is done...
Playing micro machines on the floor on a self constructed physical course could be fun. Yet I wonder with these examples and others, is there any long term appeal? It all feels at the level of Happy action theater and Kinectimals.
I mean there won't be a Witcher 4 in a living room near you. That would quickly get boring. Same with that Fragments concept. Oh the clue is behind the couch again, never would have guessed! Sure the same level can be fun for certain games, a well thought out, well constructed level that is. Making a game fun in any living room for more than a few wow moments, that's going to be hard.
Multiplayer is where it's going to be with AR. From virtual board games come to life to home laser tag, with added bots! Yet it will be a while before an affordable multiplayer set with decent fov exists.
