The answer is clearly a Really Smartphone.

Will smartphones get replaced someday by something? Sure, yeah.

I think he meant that the end of cell phones for Sony is coming. They are getting out of that business cuz their phones suck and don't sell.

False. As for sales, their smartphone business saw a 15% decline last quarter, yes, but that's more to do with less output from them (meaning less releases and marketing).

You shouldn't fall for that sort of bait.

OT, I dunno about an end to smartphones.  Until we start getting implants I can't see any movement away from a rectangualr touchscreen device that makes phonecalls, sends text messages and lets you browse the internet, take photos, shoot home movies, organise your day and a whole bunch of other things.

There has been an attempt with Google Glasses, and MS is having a go with Hololens. But I don't think facewear is going to be a thing.

The question is, what do people want to do with a mobile device that they can't do? Innovation is one thing, but also you need to create or fill a need among consumers.

Maybe we'll get lucky and basic cellphones make a comeback and smartphones die off, mercifully sparing civilization from devolving into a horde of tech-zombies staring blankly into a screen when they're not busy inflating their egos by taking selfies.

I ****ing hate smartphones.

Yeah, fuck smartphones!

With what though? We need something that can do all the stuff a smartphone can do to replace it.

Maybe "all that stuff" gets boring and old afterawhile and people stop caring as much?

silly thing to say

there's no other portable method of communication that is as convinient

This is the very type of attitude from Sony which has landed them in their current financial predicament. Instead of innovating they are simply playing down the business they are supposed to be investing in. Ipod anyone?? With the exception of Playstation, Sony have pretty much let the rest of the business down. This cannot be sustainable in the long run. With personal computing devices gone, what next might someone ask? tv's, phones etc.. Playstation won’t be enough to turn the tide I would think. The company needs to start innovating again like Apple, Google, Microsoft, LG and Samsung or it will spell the ultimate end for them. The attitude needs to turn around very quickly.
