Forums - Nintendo - [Rumour] Latest information about NX !

If its merely the Xbox One in terms of specs I'd have no reason to get for a few years.

Edit: "visually and functionally looks as if Samsung and the Nintendo 2DS...” Wait, So is it a handheld? The context of the actual device isn't given and lots of crutial details are obviously missing. Won't bother casting judgement until we actually see the thing.

I am also not sure what they thought with that comparison, X1 is around 4-5x stronger than Wii U, vile PS4 around 6-7x stronger than Wii U.

There were never official claims about wii u's raw power but it's safe to say the difference is much smaller than that.

Actually, if its to be believed to some devs on GAF from way back, WiiU has 160:8:8 GPU, so that usual 352 GFLOPS figure that's been around (that is for 320 shaders GPU) would be in fact too high for WiiU.

So, what really is safe to say is that PS4 to WiiU gap is at least 6x (given how inefficient VLIW5 (or in best case VLIW4) architecutre of WiiU vs GCN in PS4 is), and maybe much more.

If that were true wii u games would struggle to maintain 60 fps at 540p resolutions, or graphics would be much lower in order to maybe achieve 720p.

I could be wrong, but that motor thing is bullshit. First of all, the motors would have to be tiny as nuts. Being so small, they'd break pretty easily and it would lead to constant repairs/broken controllers. Also, to move the joystick in all directions, I'm almost 100% positive you would need two of them, which takes up a fuck ton of space, will lead to even further complications, and would cost even more. Actually, you know what, I'm confident about this one now. There's no way they have small motors in the controllers. It would also be really easy to "fight" the motors, because of how much torque the user could actually generate if he/she wanted (easy to break).

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Look, WiiU's power (or more precisely lack of) has been disccussed in length here and on other forums and I really don't have time or desire to beat that dead horse. Now, if you're not another Zero999 alt, an infamous user around here who preached the WiiU's "hidden" power until he got banned for spreading fud, I suggest we skip this conversation all together, cause nothing good will come out of it.

Not officially, but some people torn apart hardware and analized GPU (its 176GFLOPs), and we already know that CPU is 1.2GHz 3-Core cpu, and that has 2GB from which OS uses one 1GB.

Direct comparision Wii U power with X1:

Wii U/X1

-CPU, 1.24 GHz 3-Core PPC CPU   /    8-Core 1.75GHz AMD CPU

-GPU, 0.176-0.352 TeraFLOPS/s   /    1.31 TeraFLOPS/s

-Ram 2GB RAM, where 1GB is for OS only   /  8GB RAM, where OS takes 3GB

Ruffle, Wii U hardware is around 4x less powerful than X1 hardware.

It's not a case of VLIW 5 being inefficient... It's actually not, it's extremely efficient, especially for the amount of transisters.
...Just not in scenario's where Direct X 11+ level effects will be put to full use as you have units going un-used in the array, then it becomes inefficient, but that's also not an issue for a console as Developers know imtimately what the hardware is and can design for it.

Besides. GFLOP's isn't an accurate way to do things, the WiiU could have 100 Petaflops, it still will not beat the PS4, it's not as efficient, other parts of the chip would hinder it, making it useless.

As for the gap... It could even be larger than 6x. GFLOP's isn't an accurate way to gauge performance, using PC benchmarks are, there are effects and use-case scenario's where performance on a VLIW based GPU will simply tank and other scenario's which are generally weak on GPU's of the VLIW era. (Like Tessellation.)
Finding say... A (Assumed for the Wii-U at-best) Radeon 4650/4670/5550 and comparing it to a Radeon 7850 isn't exactly an easy thing to find though. :P Ironically. I have all of those GPU's on hand, save for the 7850.

The Wii U is certainly a gruntier overall console than the PS3/360, but certainly not in the same league as the Xbox One/Playstation 4, the games are proof of that.

You don't need to use motors. Nor would you need 2 of them. - Magnetic actuator. Is what you seek. - And before you ask, an Actuator is a type of motor.

Now I feel bad about bragging about the smart console.

Its still happening, though.

Believe.

I know what an actuator is. I use linear ones in some of my prosthetics. Also, regardless of what motor you use, it's not practical in any way, shape, or form.

Edit: From what I've seen, a magnetic actuator can not move the joystick in any direction. It would only be able to do it forward/backwards and you would require additional equipment to do anything different.

Edit2: You said you don't need motors. Then you suggested an actuator. Then you said it's a motor. So...what's up with that?

Yeah, I can't remember what was that number for VLIW5 efficiency (and too lazy to google), it was AMD's offical paper IIRC, something around 3.7 out of 5 where firing in usual workload, and that was the reason why they moved to VLIW4. Anyway, I was comparing it to GCN and exactly why I said it's at least 6x due to PS4's 1.84TFLOPS are in GCN and (at best) 352GFLOPS of WiiU are VLIW5 (or at best VLIW4).
