Forums - Nintendo - [Rumour] Latest information about NX !

If NX is a HC, i think NX could have re-releases of WiiU games, not keep backwards compatibility, no optical disk...
If its easy to port wiiu games, Nintendo will have a big line up, don't need make mario kart, SSB for NX and work on other games, in the same time, Nintendo could make NX and wiiu games, so continu to give games to WiiU buyers..

The point begs though... Is there any point to emulating the Wii U? It didn't sell in any great numbers, has a limited software library, so it's probably a pointless affair.

That's THE point, isn't it?

If Nintendo has to move away from the PowerPC architecture, doing it now makes the most sense because of Wii U's low install base.

Very True!

Agree, WiiU games have a lot of value. The WiiU will become a very rare console, way rarer than the GCube. But it has a lot of interesting games, a lot of people might want to try them without needing to look after a WiiU. And if the NX changes the architecture of the NX, direct BC is going to be awfully difficult (in contrast to the easy Wii-GC compatibility).

If they don't guarantee fully BC, they could do something similar to the XBone-360.

The flip side of the coin is that... A large chunk of the decent Titles on Wii U are also first-party, which *could* be ported over to the successor. (Nintendo could also petition publishers to do the same.)

How likely is that to occur? Well. Who knows, it would probably help fill the void of absent games on the NX launch.

I think an Optical drive is a must, people still cling to CD, DVD and Bluray.

Pemalite, i think wiiu is the Last console whose using optical disk, NX will be a HC + server and will have a Cartridge / User License with a part of games program and a part will be to download, that's why NX will need a server, storage games, online multiplayers, display on TV, powerfull with advanced cloud computing including in OS...

The server is the heart of NX Strategy, you can see it on 2 patents :

I think NX Strategy is a Community Cloud , based on personal server selling, the consoles become like Peripheral and can will be launch New model every year (like smartphones or like Microsoft speaking rescently)

The issue with ditching optical is... Downloads and storage space.
Games are ballooning in size, 60Gb isn't terribly uncommon, not exactly a pleasant experience for those with sub 10mbps~ connections. Haha
The flipside to that is... 500Gb, heck 1 Terabyte Drives are not enough to support a decent sized games library, I am already at 50% on my Xbox One with 3.5 Terabytes of total storage, would like to keep as much data on disk as possible.

Converesly, you also loose the ability to playback Audio CD's, DVD and Bluray Video, which means you will need another device connected to your TV to fill in that gap.

Still. We will have to wait and see to know what Nintendo is really up to, I would dislike the machine to be realiant online as it's more trouble than it's worth.

No Nintendo console has ever had CD/DVD/Bluray playback so not sure why that is being brought up.

1) Because I can.
2) They might include it in future devices.
It was  a massive missed opportunity not having it in the WiiU and Wii to begin with and could actually still be provided via an update.

Yeah I think Wii U is the last Nintendo hardware that will use optical discs. Microsoft is probably going to bail too next time out, it'll just be Sony.

If like i think, stationary APPARATUS is a part NX, you can read in patent that is possible to connecte a other hard disk usb

It's sure we must have a Nice connection, but this is the same for PS4 or xboxone...

And we can think the server could be buy single for wiiu and use his optical disk, NX games can be selling on Cartridge or wiiu disk...

Looking back this rumour doesn't seem far off Euroganers report

Highend mobile platform which streams to the TV
Slightly weaker than the Xbox1 (Tegra X2)
The reference to Pokemon go seems very relevant

My co-worker had a conversation with a guy on a bus who claims to have heard this exact exact same story from a developer on a top secret Reddit ask me anything.

So it's confirmed true!
