About the amount of gay people in the population I suggest not to trust a lot the numbers of those studies, some of them say that only a 2.5% of the population is gay, but other says that on certain western societies where is not tabu and people is not asshamed the number of gay + bisex grow to 10% - 15%, is hard to know the real number, the thing is we all know gay people in our everyday life, there is a ton of them is not like they're a rare thing at all, yet on videogames and films they are still rare.

Just standard political pandering.
Disney is out to make huge money from Star Wars and the masses are almost 95% hetorosexual.

And those heterosexual have gay familiars and gay friends in their lives, and a 5% (or maybe more) is gay, wich is actually a huge amount of people, so what is bad about having a similar amount of gay presence in mainstram cinema? Is not like they have to fullfil a minimun number but there is nothing wrong if they want to make their films more inclusive.

I was talking about pure profits here in Star Wars case. Any form of Entertainment can simplified like this:

Entertainment is a choice

Choice                ---relates-->      identification

Identification    ---relates--->     Self

Self                     ---relates--->      -/+ 95% Heterosexual fantasies

Thus the higher the heterosexual identification with any character or world ---> The more money

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Look, that was ONE time.  He was drunk and it was dark, and telling a girl wookie from a boy wookie is difficult in the best circumstances.

He knew what he was doing, female wookies wear bras and panties, it's simple math.

Some male wookies lie the feel of silky lingerie on their fur.

People overreact to this. It's just a gay character, they're not doing a Star Wars: Darth Diva Strikes Back.

After watching episode 7, I'm bummed he didn't say he'd welcome good storytelling in episode 8.

Predicting a lesbian Rey

Ugh, I hate when people parrot the whole, "Well, they should only put in a minority character if it's essential to the plot," when what's essential depends on the central plot. In a story about ethnicity or sexuality (e.g., American History X, Philadelphia, etc.), then of course the protagonist's ethnic background or sexuality will come in to play, but in a science fiction fantasy, ethnicity or sexuality may have little to no influence.

For example, the ethnicity of Finn in Force Awakens plays no significance on the plot, so they could've casted anyone for the role (I think the casting was great). Similarly, there was no overt, romantic sub-plot in the film, so it wasn't necessary to define the sexuality of each of the new characters yet. Ethnicity or sexuality may come in to play in the following films, but the first film, neither were central to the plot.

Ultimately, I'm all for inclusiveness, so I have no problem with what Abrams had said.

If it is essential to tell the story lr if it is part of his vision sure, no problem. If it is nothing more than trying to cater to the idiots who think that if you do not include such a character, then that is another story.

Judging how oversensitive people are and how they want nothing more to shove their views down our throats these days regardless of the group, I am betting on the later.

So sick of this nonsense...the only reason such a question was asked was to stir the pot in some way. Nothing against JJ, but the interviewer in this case is a joke.
