To me Smash is not only the best fighting game this gen, but it's also one of my all time favs

KI is one of the most enjoyable and freshest fighting games I've played in long time, like since the 90s.
SFV is good, damn good. MKX is good. GGXrd is good. I'm sure Tekken 7 will good. But these are all games that do or will likely play much the same as their predecessors.
Splatoon won many awards for being fresh, not for being objectively better than every other shooter. KI in my opinion, is the stand out fighting game this gen for being fresh.
On a side note, Smash Bros is not a traditional arcade fighting game so that's why I wouldn't compare it to games like KI, MK, SF, etc. Its like comparing Splatoon with Halo. Or comparing Mario Kart and Forza. Same genre but very different experience.
