Super Mario World
Great colors and visuals, fluid controls, and awesome music.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
For me, it's Mario 3. It's a game that presents itself without having to find a bunch of secrets to get the whole game. Don't get me wrong, I love Mario World, but Mario 3 is like Mario 1 on crack. Everything is simple, yet effective. With tons of levels, powerups, minigames, item inventory, and memorable enemies...I just can't find much wrong with it. Except for Boom Boom and the other Koopalings.
NSMBU
-Tight controls
-Mario in HD
-Some of the artwork is gorgeous
-Challenging bonus world
-Off TV play and other gamepad features
-Decent challenge mode
-Squirrel suit, best Mario power up ever
-Super Luigi U DLC, top value for money.
Im one of the few that actually prefers the New Super Mario Bros series over the old school classics, with NSMBU being the best of the bunch
Super Mario U is currently the best.
For its time Super Mario World was, and in some ways still is, but because of how tech has changed NSMBU wins. The visuals are what make the difference for me. Not just because it's HD but because they are so vibrant and magical. When world came out I was blown away by its presentation.

This is ceartainly a tough choice, since every one is excellent, but for me is by far Super Mario World. One of the first games I ever played, it was so full of secrets and excellent stages, that if you pit it against most modern games, it will still win by a landslide.
Super Mario World is one of few games that you can say without a doubt that it is a timeless masterpiece
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Paper Mario. Haha!!!
I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
Mario World's controls haven't aged a minute, it's one of the few classics that uses the D-Pad that still feels 100% sharp when using the analog stick.
bet: lost
Super Mario World is a truly outstanding game. I'm actually playing through it again at the moment. It's the best Mario game ever made
