You sure about that? They did it with the 3DS. Pokemon Black/White released on DS just 5 months before the 3DS launched in Japan and in the same month as the western launch.

They've chose not to release Pokemon games as a launch title before and instead go for last gen only, don't see why they couldn't do it again.

Maybe when the DS was reaching 150m units sold Nintendo thought software sales were good enough, but considering the dwindling handheld market and weaker home console sales, Nintendo is going to want every single console-seller they could get. But again, I think Magiana is a 6th gen pokemon, for Z or X2/Y2, so I'm not worried.

Pokemon generations last from 3-4 years on average, that means that it wouldn't actually be out of the normal for a new gen to come in November of this year.

People are saying that the idea of Gen VII coming now goes against established franchise traditions (a third version of the main games), but so did Gen V. Also in saying that, there is absolutely no precedent for a single new Pokemon being introduced in a third version game, ever. Forms yes, actual Pokemon, no. 

I'm 95% sure we're getting Gen VII this year. X and Y left a lot to be desired story and content-wise, but there is little reason to continue them with a third title when a new gen would sell more and earn more for Nintendo/Game Freak, especially given that they broke that tradition last gen anyway. 

Gen V had the third installment like usual. more like a seccond installement, as the first two are always the same game and so were b2w2/y/c/e/p.

B2/W2 weren't the same game at all. They were sequels in a manner similar to what G/S were originally intended to be. Every gen up until then with Y/C/E/P introduced third titles with extremely minor story alterations, slight additions to the main game regional dex (in P's case anyway)  and a battle area, that's it.
B2/W2 added nearly 150 new pokemon to the main game dex, added an entirely new area to the region which contained multiple cities, changed the story entirely, added new features in Pokewood and the PWT, they were very very different from B/W. The 'third game' thing hopefully died with Platinum.

It is gen 6, imo.

Until gen 5 they couldnt add a content after the game released. Now, they can launch new content in the middle of the pokemon gen and still stay in that gen.
So i think they will add the new pokemon and new formes to XY and ORAS, so you could trade with the new version, but still on gen 6.

Having Z would be the most boring and disappointing way of celebrating 20 years. The 3rd "mandatory" add-on game. Have that garbage come out next year x~x we need something special for this year

I dream of an HD Red/Blue/Green remake for the Wii U. Just dream T^T

As for Pokemon Z or X2/Y2, the first hint were the different Zygarde forms that came from whatever movie or CoroCoro issue came out late last year. I think we'll see a prequel, with us playing as AZ... but that'd be too cool for GameFreak to think of

I really hope that those Zygarde forms dont come into fruition. The only one worth releasing is the final form of Zygarde. The dog and the 2 or 3 (practically the same) larval forms are some of the laziest design work I've seen from Pokemon, they look like something you'd see from a Pokemon clone. A prequel would be ok, but again, is Z or anything related to Kalos AGAIN something we want to celebrate 20 years of Pokemon? The 10 year anniversary saw the release of a new Pokemon gen. It'd be nice to have the 20th anniversary to do the same

They could do that, but they're not, see OR/AS. I can understand why, as it would mean less reasons to buy Pokemon games after the first pair in a generation.

How about the never happening Multi-region Pokemon Rainbow? That'd be a good way. Or the first mainline Pokemon game on a home console.

Even if you weren't vastly underestimating the dedicated handheld market, you still haven't explained why a new pokemon would have to be a launch title at all costs. There's really no need for that and would probably be rushed.
