They've chose not to release Pokemon games as a launch title before and instead go for last gen only, don't see why they couldn't do it again.

Maybe when the DS was reaching 150m units sold Nintendo thought software sales were good enough, but considering the dwindling handheld market and weaker home console sales, Nintendo is going to want every single console-seller they could get. But again, I think Magiana is a 6th gen pokemon, for Z or X2/Y2, so I'm not worried.

Even if you weren't vastly underestimating the dedicated handheld market, you still haven't explained why a new pokemon would have to be a launch title at all costs. There's really no need for that and would probably be rushed.
