Forums - Nintendo - Fan made NX concept (New 3D render)

If they can eliminate the HDD and the discdrive (and the fan) the rest will not take very much space as seen on the XB1 and PS4.

It's possible that the home console uses mobile parts similar to the way Apple TV/Amazon Fire TV use the same parts as their smartphone counterparts.

Interesting, but wouldn't it be underpowered in this case? If it was easy to build a decently strong console like that, I don't think MS would have opted for a big one like XB1, for example.

Well power and size aren't really directly related, PS4 is quite a bit smaller than XB1 yet more powerful. Also there is the Nvidia Shield TV which is more powerful than Wii U despite being much smaller and using Mobile chips.

Also I don't really think Nintendo has any desire to compete directly with PS4/XB1 so power isn't a massive issue, NX just needs to run modern engines like Unity & Unreal 4 while being easy to port games to.

I don't think they will try to surpass PS4/XB1 in power either, but in 2016 it's expected that a new console is at least similar to XB1's power level. Like you said, it needs to run modern engines and make up for good and easy ports. If it's considerably weaker tho, devs will probably not take their time to develop a somewhat different version just for it... this already happened before.

Anyway, this is my opinion, but maybe Nintendo will do something entirely different than what we expect. After all, it's Nintendo we're talking about.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

It's mainly the disc (bluray) drive that takes up space. Hard drive is emmc storage.

The other component that looks so big is the heat sink. That thing in the OP should have mobile ARM to dispate heat efficiently.

That almost looks like a Raspberry Pi.

The heat sink and fan look out of place for a Raspberry Pi :P

I don't think Nintendo should worry about third parties with the NX, if they combine the HH+HC Nintendo market unto one platform, the userbase will be big to ignore. Similar to what happened with the Wii, third parties will bend over backwards to release the next-casual-or-whatever-genre titles for it.

Equivalent power alone to PS4 or XB1 wont bring titles, the WiiU had similar power to many missed PS3/XB360 titles. It needs to have a good mixture of userbase and acceptable power for third parties to "maybe" join. They should just concentrate on pushing out titles by themselves for both HH+HC users.

IT doesnt draw that attention. It needs to look more high-tech

I think Sony and Mirosoft would disagree. It needs to look sleek and, black and mininilistic enough to blend into any Entertainment setup and then they need to stick a strategic blue or white light somewhere. They went very wrong rounding those edges on the Wii U and I still think the WII looks more advanced and miminilistic enough to look good on any TV Stand, esspecially with a nice costum stand.

It should blend in, and stand out. A sleek design is what im saying they should have, but it needs more lights ( if it can afford it) the console itself should be either white, or black, or like dark red.

apple would sue.

Even better, imagine if japanese companies could release their biggest JRPGs on Nintendo's handhelds. The japanese market would go crazy for it, imagine the sales FFXV could pull of in Japan if it was released on a handheld with a similar installbase of the 3DS.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Maybe by now the mobile technology is fast enough that ARM will be a good substitute for PowerPC? Although I see a different evolution in other devices such as tablets and mobiles, some of them are dropping ARM to go for x84-64. Intel missed the boat that ARM took with power efficiency although they've been spending loads to recover the lost ground.

So Nintendo might also go for fusion or APU or however AMD calls it now for both HH and HC. I don't know.

OT: Yeah, the handheld market in Japan will most likely love that.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
