It feels like we have this thread almost monthly.
No game is overrated. These games sell as well as they do because they appeal to a huge number of people. It doesn't matter if you, I or Joe Bloggs doesn't like the game, franchise or genre... Literally Millions of other people love them and the sales numbers reflect that.
And because we have had this thread countless times before, I'm locking it up.

I might think that some games are literally RATED higher than I feel they should, but if we're talking about sales, no game that's actually good (i.e. any game that's not shovelware specifically meant to trick people into buying it) is overrated. Every game sells exactly as many units as it deserves, because there are just that many people out there who wanted to buy it.
You're looking at sales like a quality litmus, but that's not right. Even if a game is only "pretty good" versus a complete masterpiece or something, it can sell tens of millions of units simply because it happens to appeal to a wide enough audience. That's just how products work. The sales aren't proportional to the quality.
