Yeah, take those lights at the corners of the headset. Motion sensing gives the PS4 some information on how far you've probably moved your head but after a while it will lose the exact position and think you are sat up straight even when your head is tilted to one side. This is where the lights and camera add that accuracy. The camera is looking at orientation (where you are in relation to the PS4), size (how far you are away from the PS4) and shape (what angle you are from the PS4). So if one of those rectangular lights is picked up as a square because you've angled to the left, the camera can calculate the exact angle based on the measurement of that square and size of that square. When it returns to the full rectangle the camera knows you are back to looking directly at the PS4. It's also measuring the distance between each light for further accuracy on orientation.
The PS5 Exists.

OR has a sensor, not the same type of camera. Yes it does. |
Thats good to hear. Hopefully this will encourage Sony to be more competitive with the pricing when it is finally announced.

And with a X360 controller, but not the awesome Oculus motion controllers. o

I wouldt want to use that 600 for the rift, it would mean that they are targeting such a small userbase that can handle the specs required. They have t come up with a lite version.
It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.
the-pi-guy said: That'll be pretty easy. OR costs 599$. |
Well in europe it costs ~750-800€ after tax, import costs and shipment. So ye should be even easier to beat outside the us^^

Oculous is aimed at people who already own a good enough PC in the same way PSVR is aimed at people who already have a PS4. You don't add in the price of a TV when discussing the price of a Blu-ray player and that's because it's a product in its own right. |
The amount of people who have that good of a PC to game on is tiny compared to people who own PS4s. Oculous is going to be the 3DO of VR systems.

console $350 + HDM $300 + Camera move budle $128 = $778 |
I would also add cost of TV once you are at it (I love when people forget about it!), because who in the right mind buys console without a TV? And you'll end up with similar price. Knowing that, I would choose premium product (Oculus), that probably will be capable of more than just being simple gaming perhiperal. That's what Luckey meant when saying 'different markets'.
As for being dead in the water. Did I miss something? Because last I've checked PSVR will not be released on PC, so as a perhiperal, they'll never compete against each other. As for a gaming device, most people buy console to play games already anyway, lol. I have a fairly strong PC (3D graphics and video editing) and still prefer to play games on X1, because it's more comfortable.
Still expensive, but it must start somewhere. This gen it will still be niche, although a lot larger than previous attemps, but for VR to become mainstream we'll have to wait at least until next gen, maybe even later.
Lafiel said: would be a really good price, but for now I still expect ~$/€400 for a pack with PSVR and the camera I think a non-camera sku could cause some confusions, so they better have a fat red warning "PSVR requires the Playstation Camera to work" on the package a different solution could be to only offer cam-less packs online |
Erm, imagine people who already own the camera and the controllers, what are they supposed to buy? Another camera and another set of controllers? Hm, nope. The standalone SKU is very important if they don't want to alienate a chunk of their playerbase.
Anyway, if they make a 599€ bundle with the console + the bundle + 1 game I'll bite (unlikely, 699€ would be more likely). Otherwise I shall wait. :'(

I´m thinking VR porn will be one of the main things that will eventually cement VR as a success.
