Oh.. So is it basically essential?

A VR without the camera would be quite useless if it has not even head tracking?

Damn I have such a hard time to get my head wrapped around all of this. It was much easier with motion controlls for PS360WII. VR is complicated.

Of course it's essential. How do you think they'd track you without it? Haven't you seen the lights on the MOVE and the headset?

Okay, okay... for motion controls to work, yes. But if we pretend you would play with a regular controller, like Oculus does with a Xbox controller. Does that experience benefit from the camera? It should register the head tracking. So basically, how important is head tracking when you are inside the VR world?

would be a really good price, but for now I still expect ~$/€400 for a pack with PSVR and the camera

I think a non-camera sku could cause some confusions, so they better have a fat red warning "PSVR requires the Playstation Camera to work" on the package

a different solution could be to only offer cam-less packs online

There are actually many PSVR games that offer a choice between move and standard controler. Some games apparantly only use the controler as well.

Still, this just reinforces the need for clarity when it comes to the PSVR and control methods.

this is not about Move, the headset itself absolutely needs the Playstation Camera to work !!

without the Camera there is no positional tracking and no way to eliminate _drift_, so Sony won't make it useable without the Cam

Look, this is in no way meant to sound rude but do oyou know aht VR is? Head tracking IS VR. Without head tracking VR would just be the same gaming experience as it is now. You are IN the world as opposed to looking at the world.

Oh...

lol that's why I said I had a hard time wrapping my head around this.

But Gribble... in your very own OP you write that rumour has it that the Playstation VR will ship without a camera. So how can you call it VR then?

Head tracking requiers a camera. And you say headtracking IS VR. Thus, a VR without camera can not be VR.

Because one SKU is for people who already own the camera and one SKU is for people who haven't. Just look around your room now ... Imagine that room your in is made out of polygons ... That's VR. It fools the brain into believing you are there and so every real world sensation is simulated convincingly.

If people are sitting down that will eliminate drift.

Any drift whatsoever (even on the tiniest level) will ruin the experience and make you feel sick. When you move your head around, the PSVR MUST be able to keep EXACT track of you so that when you settle back into your starting postion everything remains orientated perfectly. All of this tech is aided my improved motion sensing and so you have two different techs combined to create an perfect experience.

Sold! Oh wait it's still just a rumor, and if they don't hurry up it's going to convert to CAD 600 by the time it comes out :/ Still sold.

My move controllers are still working fine as well as the ps4 camera, we played just dance 2015 only a couple hours ago. That solves the problem of being afraid to look ridiculous with a head set on, that ship sailed a long time ago.

Does the Oculus come bundled with a camera?
