its casuals who are buying Amiibos more than anything else, you have it backwards
its that kid, or older person with memories, who sees a Pikachu Amiibo and either goes "omg cute!" OR "omg I remember playing Pokemon"
I doubt the 'hardcore' Nintendo subgroup is the reason they're selling well, despite the individuals with complete sets and whatnot
