Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon will be bigger than Zelda Part 2

The denial comments in the old thread are kinda funny.

I think Zelda U can sell better. In fact, I think it can sell close to MK8 numbers.

I'm also delusional about Zelda. I'm not lying, though. I think Zelda U will outsell Splatoon. I just don't think it's based on any sound logic.

It very well might sell better. I'm talking more about future entries

Zelda u might outsell Splatoon if it also comes out on the NX.

I think that in a few years, Nintendo's highest selling franchise, per release (and type of game), will go as follows:
1. Pokemon (main series)
2. Mario Kart
3. Splatoon
4. 2D Super Mario
5. Super Smash Bros.
6. Animal Crossing (main series)
7. 3D Super Mario
8. Tomodachi series
9. 3D Legend of Zelda
10. 2D Legend of Zelda
Honorable mentions: Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion (if they make it a recurring series), and Donkey Kong
*This is assuming that NX is a hybrid console/handheld system.

It's a bit soon to consider Splatoon at that high position. Yes, I think that Splatoon will be part of the multiplayer trifecta on Nintendo consoles (Mario Kart, Smash and Splatoon), but consider it above 2D Mario and Smash after just one game is a bit hasty. Specially when 2D Marios are usually some of the best selling games on Nintendo consoles (1st on the NES, 1st on the SNES, 4th on GameBoy, 4th on GBA, 1st on DS, 5th on Wii, 2nd on WiiU, 5th on 3DS).

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Tough call.

I'll withhold judgement until there is a Splatoon 2 and we see it's performance. For all we know interest in the series plummets, while Zelda has been going strong for 30 years now. It could also be the biggest thing ever, we just can't know yet. Also, speaking of the first Splatoon, it did sell way more than I thought it would, but not so much that it's out of Zelda's reach as it did outsold those sales plenty of times over. Zelda U could already outsell it, and if it's cross-gen it definitely will.

But, to make a long story short, I'll wait before I see the performance of a sequel to Splatoon, and how it evolves both in sales and as a seriesbefore I'd make any bold statements. I'll leave it with; it could, if Nintendo "Mario Karts" Splatoon.
