That doesn't stop splatoon for being toe to toe with halo5 :p

Being a spin off of pokemon? (they don't do well anymore)
Being on wiiu?
Yes 1mil would be very good considering its also a fighting game. Hyrule warriors for wat it was did extremely well too (thanks to zelda fans)

This is a game that looks soooooo promising and that I wish to have all te success in the world. At the same time, I always wonder if players of other consoles are envy and would love to take a try, too, or if it's a Nintendo fanboy phenomenon.
I hope the extra exposure from Evo helps give it some attention. I'd love to see this game do well in the west

Evo is the biggest fighting game tournament by far, the Stream averages around 200 -300k, one major reason Third Strike became popular was due to EVO which was still going by its old name at the time. It's where the fighting game communities come together and games are given exposure, only series that really is the exception is Smash.
