I don't get why you threw VGC in the poll though, it's been made very strict and common theme with this site that you cannot talk about it or the community in any sort of negative light unless you're away from certain prying eyes and ears (ie: talking of the site off the site).

Wow, really? :-O

I very rarely, if at all, see people get moderated for criticizing this site. I mean, I guess I've seen about two people get banned by ioi for encouraging people to use adblock on this site (because well, the ads on this site are less than optimal...), but that's about it.

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anyone get banned or moderated for talking about this site or its community in a negative light (aside from those two aforementioned cases). I've seen a few people that did talk about this site or its community in a negative light get moderated, but that had more to do the actual flaming and trolling in the posts than them criticizing the site or its community.

Maybe I just didn't get the memo where we were informed that this was a strict and common theme, because aside from that, there's nothing that suggests it. :-3

I was told that if I had any "issues with the site" to take it to a PM, as in no thread making to openly talk of any issues or people. I can't say I've seen much of either on here and I think my own account isn't just a random coincidence. Personally I feel that what accounts to criticism can be skewered pretty easily, to someone it could count as flaming or trolling, to another it could be a legit issue.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I've never been on Reddit, and Youtube posts don't bother me, so neither.

It depends a lot on how you word things when you criticize or question the site. If you remain level-headed and don't single users out, and come with constructive criticism, then mods are very lenient and willing to discuss issues. I'm not sure which case you are talking about though, so I can't speak my mind about that.

Youtube no doubt, the worst of the gaming community is in that place

It does depend, that I do know but it's also dependant on whether or not one is willing to accept critism, some can and some can't, some can accept it right fof the bat and others can counter it at every turn. The case I was talking about was related to something else but I do know that I cannot make a thread talking directly about the site in any sort of non positive light let alone the community, the Escapist, Destuctoid and PCGamer also enforce this view as well from what I've seen along with counter critism from mods on those sites (very few nod and agree from my recollection with most outcomes being coutner critism or "that's not true" counters), but I digress.

Oh well, either way I can't really agree with you that "it's been made very strict and common theme with this site that you cannot talk about it or the community in any sort of negative light unless you're away from certain prying eyes and ears (ie: talking of the site off the site)."

So we're gonna have to agree to disagree on that one, but that's sorta par for the course for us anyway

Well I kinda already guessed that the moment you talked about a memo =P.

By all means do but I know what I see and hear and what I've seen on multiple sites, I know your pov is different to mine and due to that I didn't really expect you to agree with me in general and that's ok.

I do strongly feel that there isn't as much leeway as you think though.

If you get offended by random comments on the internet, you seriously need to rethink your priorities in life. The comments on most of those sites are good for the lulz every now and then.

I'm more offended when sites tries to curb comments or discussions so that only the point of view they wish to push is represented. This often happens on partisan political sites and blogs, and lately it's also been occurring in real life on American college campuses for example, like that professor who just got charged with assault when she got in the face of a student reporter and called for "more muscle" to help her remove the reporter from filming and documenting one of the many "black lives matter" protests...

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/01/25/assault-charge-filed-against-mizzou-professor-who-called-some-muscle/79298692/

Stuff like that offends me far more than some random person trolling comments sections for attention or making crude or racist jokes.
