They never specified it was a handheld.

 

Its my guess. I'm bettig that this year will be about the nx handheld, and next year will be for the console. But this also means that Paper Mario U won't be happening until next year.

If it's indeed Paper Mario "U" I'd think that reason is why it'd release this year.
