Forums - Gaming - 1st Party Multiplats

Well its made me wonder about the current gaming era we are living at the very moment. As we have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Is it suprising that Microsoft / Xbox are the only gaming company that shares its 1st party titles? Lets look at it like this.

Minecraft was recently purchased by MS, Instead of MS pulling the plug on the other consoles, there only increasing its revenue by adding a WiiU version and bringing out Minecraft Story mode to both WiiU and PS4 consoles. Would Sony and Nintendo do this if they brought Minecraft? Some how i highly daubt that especially when you look at Sony and what they did with Street Fighter 5.

MS also stated they would like to bring Banjo and Kazooie to Smash Bros and Phil recently said in a article saying he might considering bringing Rare's Replay to Nintendo. Thats very interesting because these are MS franchises now and yet sharing them across there competitors platforms doesnt seem to bother MS or Xbox.

And we all know how MS is supporting the PC industry considering most (Not all) of there 1st party games slowly make there way to Windows.

We all consider MS as a greedy corp but when you look at it, there the only ones that  dont mind sharing. They will do deals like they always have to get a game first but actually sharing? I wish others did the same thing. Actaully working togother as a Gaming industry not agasint each other.

What are your thoughts.

How is it surprising that Microsoft are slowly bringing their games to Windows? It's obvious they're setting a foundation for a potential future without home consoles like Sony is with Playstation Now. There's also the fact that out of the big three they're the ones that probably could use another platform for their first party games. Nintendo games sell regardless of install base (as seen with the Wii U) and with the Playstation 4 selling so well, Sony doesn't need to put their games on any other platform.

Also, every company is greedy, not just Microsoft. They're all in this business to make money. How they go about that though is up to them.

Where exactly did he say he would bring Rare Replay to "Nintendo"?

Last thing we heard was he told a person who asked about Rare Replay to WiiU to ask the Microsoft games twitter account in which they responded with the typical PR statement: "We do not have any plans at this moment to bring Rare Replay to other platforms" blah blah something something.

Anyways MS releasing games on the Windows platform is no brainer since they own Windows and this is a easy incentive to get people (mainly gamers) to upgrade to Windows 10 especially for gamers who are on the edge keeping Windows 7.

Highly unlikely we'll ever see actual 1st party multiplats or at least actually console/portable 1st party developed titles as digital (non-streamed) or physical media on a competitor system.

Let me know when Halo comes out on Playstation/Nintendo, Uncharted on Nintendo/Xbox and Super Mario on Xbox/Playstation.

They dont label it out like there competitors, in fact i dont think they care if they release on other platforms aslong as theres money involved.

I see - and of course in the first link he would love that to happen xD!

2nd link is funny because MS Games said to ask Rareware but dont Rareware answer to MS Games when it comes to development of games XD.

Rare does there own thing now, and judging by the link its up to Rare, but im sure they would have to run it by MS first before doing it.

SF V is not a first party game. Learn the difference. It's not first party.

PS Now on non playstation platforms says hello. Furthermore MS still doesn't allow server sharing with other platforms for cross play other than first party PC games like Fable Legends. PS4 has FF14 woth cross play on PC and you don't need PS Plus to play it. It has already been stated that the reason it is not on X1 is due to MS policies.

Minecraft is a unique situation, as the main game was already out on so many platforms. Would have looked horrible if they cut support for it everywhere but PC and X1. As for your other examples, saying the will bring a game to WiiU and actually doing it are different things.

Sorry to break it to you but they are all big companies out for themselves at the end of the day. MS is no more generous than anyone else.

Do you ever check your facts before you make a thread, azz? Street fighter is not a first party game. Minecraft was already on the PS3 and PS4 before MS bought Mojang/Minecraft.

Yes, I was surprised to see Minecraft and Story Mode come to the Wii U after it was acquired by Microsoft..

The game is already multiplat/cross gen so at the same time, it's not too surprising

If this game was bought by Sony, it probably wouldn't have gone to the Wii U, but would still be supported by the systems it is already on, which is like everything but the Wii U :p

Nintendo would not have bought this game

Yeah i did check my facts, did you read my article?

MS brought Minecraft and are bringing it to WiiU and also releaseing Story Mode (A separate game) to PS4 aswell. Would Sony do this if they arquired Minecraft? No they will support the game thats already been released on the consoles but thats it, they will most likely do a SF5 and make sure no one else can touch it, same goes for Nintendo. MS also release games on the gameboy something Sony wont do or even share there characters on Smash Bros, where as MS said they would if Nintendo wanted them.

Theres a big difference between the 3 corps. One doesnt mind sharing while the others are very greedy, the moment Sony or Nintendo have there name on something, good luck trying to play it without being locked into there hardware.

Just for arguments sakes. MS also release games on Steam, there PC rival, games like Ori and Halo Spartan Assualt and Strike just to name some examples.

Minecraft is a bad argument. Getting rid of the other versions would have been bad publicity, and when it's already on other platforms, releasing it for some more shouldn't hurt. Exclusivity is already lost, so there's only profit to be made by releasing the game on other platforms. It wouldn't have benefited MS to not release it elsewhere.

As for PC, it's Microsoft's platform for gaming purposes. Most PC gaming happens on Windows, and in the current situation, I'm sure MS will do whatever it can to strengthen the position of Windows. That said, MS's efforts to bring games to PC have still been relatively weak.

Also, you're cherry picking cases to try to prove your argument. In the grand scale of things, MS shares very little.
