I don't think the gameplay is bad, the problem is the amount of content lacks, a lot. If they promised that they would add new courts and modes I'd play it. Something similar to Splatoon. But I think that's all, and it's bad, very bad.

I think the core mechanics took a step backwards after the N64 version but I have been considering giving this a go. Anyone have any advice?

Been debating about whether or not I should buy Mario Tennis Ultra Smash. With the lack of content, or modes, then I may just hold off until, if ever, it receives an update. Maybe I should buy Mario Tennis 64 instead, especially since it's only $10 on the VC.

My advice is: Stay away! This game lacks everything. I bought it day one, and have regretted it ever since. I actually played a bit online again yeterday. If you like tennis games buy top spin or tennis elbow instead (other platforms of course). If you like the "mario" in tennis, there aint much to that either. There is no item battle here. Pity, since that is what makes this franchise stand out, the NGC power tennis was great.

You can forget any updates, as there havent been any so far, and N hasnt given any word on it, and few people bougjt the game as well.

The online is very Nintendo, which means very bare bones You cannot even play against a friend online! Yes, it´s that bad..

Bottom line: If you like a mediocre "tennis " game with few features and play modes, no item battles and online where you can only play vs strangers, go ahead. If you do, please get it in the bargain bin or buy used. Dont support this bad cash in from N.
