Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4+Wii U best combo this generation?

PS4 and PC for me.

Multiplatform games I generally play on PC. Most console exclusives I'm interested in, are on PS4. And, with all the big Japanese games releasing next year (plus my current backlog of games), I'm not going to have time to even play them all!

That's not always true. For example, Batman: Arkham Knight is terrible on PC, the best version is on PS4.

Not always, but in 95 - 99% of the multiplatform games of the last decade.

I do get most of the multiplats on PC too (because they're cheaper) but it's not like the PS4 version of those games are that far behind.

The PS4 versions are not yet that far behind a decent gaming PC, but the gap will widen over the years.

Just look at some of the best multi-platform games of the 7th gen:

  • You can play Mass Effect 1, 2, 3 in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play Oblivion and Skyrim in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) and crazy mods on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) and crazy mods on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play GTA IV, TL&tD and Gay Tony in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) and crazy mods on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City  in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play Assassin's Creed 1, 2, 3, Brotherhood and Revelations  in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play BioShock 1, 2 and Infinite  in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p/30fps
  • You can play Half-Life 2 and Episodes 1 + 2  in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p
  • You can play Left4Dead 1 + 2  in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p
  • You can play Portal 1 + 2  in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p
  • You can play CoD: Modern Warfare 1 + 2 (the best titles of the series) in 1080p/120fps (or 1080p/3D or 1440p or 4K) on PC, the best console versions are stuck at 720p

The same will happen to 8th gen titles in the next years, and you don't have to pay again for a remastered version to get a better graphics (higher resolution or maxed out effects or better antialiasing or better textures or inofficial VR-compatibility) or crazy mods or additional fan-made content. When you upgrade your PC-hardware, you don't only make it ready for the newest games, most of your older games get better also.

Ultimately depends on what games you're into.

My personal combination is Nintendo consoles + PC, and I manage just fine.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

PC+3DS is my current combo but I'm also going for a Wii U and maybe an NX (once we know all about it).

Nah, owning all 3 is the best combo.

Owning all three is about half as enjoyable as owning a nice gaming PC. #justsayin

Well of course it is, I mean the original xbox doesnt get any games and even the 360 just gets poor ports and yeah the xbox one is just a solid console, but doesn't stand a chance against pc. #youjustsayin

Might be best to hold off on the Wii U until we know about the NX. I'd be quite surprised if it wasn't backwards compatible.

I was thinking this for a while but I figure that Wii U will be cheaper with time and if NX doesn't have good full backwards compat then I'll probably go for the Wii U, if NX can do do BC then I'll go for that.

PC + PS4 or wii U depending on first party preference. no question

Question: What if I prefer Nintendo exclusives to PC exclusives? I mean, yeah, PC has numbers. But most of the good indies end up on PS4 anyway, plus there's the PS4 exclusives. So essentially, you're comparing Nintendo 1st party to Steam indies... And I just gotta say no.
