Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Federation Force looks fun but I'm not getting it to teach Nintendo a lesson!

I hate to say it, but maybe Metroid needs to stay in cryofreeze.

Nintendo has no idea what to do with it. First the catastrophe that was Other M, then a portable Chibi spinoff where you play as the grunts. It's been nearly a decade now since the last Metroid game that wasn't a travesty.

The problem is that the very nature of franchise itself (a dark sci-fi adventure inspired by the movie Alien) is totally foreign to modern Nintendo, which only seems to know how to make light hearted cotton candy. The Nintendo of today just doesn't have the balls to make the gritty mature reboot that the franchise is screaming out for.

Does anybody want a "gritty mature reboot" *eyeroll* so western, so cliche. We need a sequel to Super Metroid. Not a plot sequel like Fusion, but a sequel that creates new staples for the series going forward. A new element on top of what is there that jumps starts the series, something they can use for the next 3 games.

Like it or not, today's gaming mainstream is Western.

And Metroid was originally envisioned as a dark sci-fi game with heavy Alien influences. It's the more recent games that have strayed from this original premise with cheesy anime-esque silliness.

Hell, Super Metroid was for its time gritty and mature. It had dead bodies on the title screen for Pete's sake.

What would be wrong with a HD Metroid for handhelds?

I'd actually love that! The 3DS was too weak to do so. If Nintendo can do so for the handhelds, then count me in!

And those corpses are in the top 10 things that anybody cares about when discussing Super Metroid right?  Super Metroid came out 1994, 20+ years ago, and unfortunately remains the pinnacle of series. The 2D game design has had NO major innovations, except for side stepping it for Prime. That can not go on. Reviving Metroid on a game design level is more important than reviving/maintaining visual/tone inspirations from 20 years.

I would much rather have cheesy anime Metroid with brand new concepts than them focusing on being Dark n Gritty because .... something

One of the most fundamental hallmarks of Metroid is it's atmosphere. An atmosphere of isolation, dread, foreboding. A dark tone, as seen in the original, Super Metroid, and the Prime trilogy, is condusive to this. Cheesy anime melodrama and Chibi soccer is not.

Of everyone didn't buy stuff that they didn't like, or wanted to protest, the world would be a slightly better place.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

It looks fine in the fun department. But does'nt seem to have the quality and content for a 40$ game. It looks like a fun 10$ game.

I'm not getting it because i'm not interested in spending over 40$ on this game, no seem to be worth it at all for me. But I really hope no one grabs it to teach Nintendo a lesson.

Anyone have an updated trailer? I thought it was hated and I have no memory of it.

the fact is that the only thing we saw about it was the E3 trailer and the Nintendo World championships footage of blast ball...

Wait, yea... In what way!?

Yes, because the thousands of people who signed petitions, disliked videos, opened threads and so on aren't Metroid fans, but just haters that don't care about the Metroid Franchise and decided to hate on a single bad game instead of others...

I wouldn't say they are a bunch of haters and that they're not Metroid fans. But I can say without any regrets that the people who signed the petition to cancel it are a bunch of shameless idiots who don't respect the work of an studio (Next Level) that is probably really excited for working in a series so important as Metroid. They're probably doing their best in this spin off and all they get is undeserved disrespect, hate and a petition to throw all their work out of the window. That, in my opinion, is something horrible. I understand people who don't like the game, but there are some limits to plain disappointment for a flippin game.

That being said, even if all the hate the game is getting really means that fans want a real Metroid game, its Nintendo we're talking about. They live in their own little world with candies and puppies. They're not going to see it they way you want. And even if they do, they will ignore it, because they"re not going to allow some people on the internet to have power on their own decisions.

To be fair since I first read that MP:FF was developed by NLG I thought "Oh... It must be a concept they were given from the head of Nintendo, I feel sorry for them...". I don't think that a creative studio such as NLG wanted to make a co-op shooting game to begin with... It's just foolish to think that Nintendo wouldn't get it, it's true that they don't listen to fans a lot, but it doesn't mean that they don't listen, let's not treat Nintendo as if they were a person with sunglasses in a dark room...

Let's teach a lesson together!
