Makes sense.
Doesn't really matter since you can save inside the game, I think it's better since it stays true to the original, plus in Pokémon games you can save whenever you want outside of battle so...

If the save function of the Virtual Console is out, what are the VC special features for this game going to be?

Being able to play Pokemon RBYG on your 3DS.
Trading.
Yeah the restore points don't really help much when it is a game that you could save anywhere. At least they used the "saved" space to implement the comm features.
Well It makes sense, since they went out of their way to make the trading work. Save points could really upset the trading balance. People could get infinite legendarys, multiple starters, and basically unlimited master balls too, depending on how smartly they're using their savepoints. So it makes sense to disable them for this game.
You can save outside of batte anytime anyways and with sleep mode you should never have the need to save in battle.
When I play VC games on my 3DS, I actually just use the quick save feature rather than saving normally because it's a lot quicker and efficient..
Not surprising that this feature would be removed during trading though..

Guess it makes sense, considering that they had to implement wireless into the game.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
