So basically, smokers pay money, to feel like non smokers feel like all the time, FOR FREE.

This isn't really true. When I smoked tobacco I had nonstop energy all throughout the day and could also drink many beers without feeling drowsy and dozing off.

I started when I was 16 and quit around my 21 birthday. Just said fuck this and quit cold turkey, definately of the better decisions I've made in life.

You have balls. I couldn't imagine how hard it was.

Yeah it was tough for a few days but I actually got over it much quicker than expected. It really helped that a couple weeks after quitting cigarette prices went up from about $6 a pack to like $8.50 in minnesota so I had extra motivation to stay away.

Second this, especially drinking. impossible to resist a cig when drinking

It is possible. The best way to quit smoking is to hang around webmd. It doesn't take long to convince yourself you have cancer.

Smoking can be good for some:

"The risk of Parkinson's disease is reduced by cigarette smoking.. There is now robust experimental evidence for a neuroprotective effect of nicotine upon dopaminergic neurons." - http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/746713

"current smokers were less likely to be obese than never smokers" - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25886648

"nicotine is also known to enhance aspects of cognitive function, including attention and memory (for a recent meta-analysis, see Heishman et al., 2010)." - http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0028390813000725

90% of lung cancer cases came from smokers. This already overrules any advantages to smoking.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I heard if you smoke your whole life it will take about 14 years off your lifespan. But if you quit before you're 40, it will stop 90% of the bad health effects. If you quit earlier, the health risks are reduced even more. After 10 years of non-smoking, the risk of lung cancer is half that of a smoker's. After 15 years of non-smoking, I think they don't even bother screening for lang cancer with CT scans like they do with an experienced smoker.

So I'd say enjoy it for a while and then quit so there is still time to repair the damage.

I quit smoking because of fear of the risks. I'm hoping lung cancer can be cured by strides in immunotherapy in the next few decades, but I'm not sure about COPD which also kills many. Heart disease isn't really a problem in my family.

I think the disconnect is that Nicotine can be injested via other means.  It's the smoking itself that is the problem, Nicotine isn't what causes lung cancer.

I think you're talking about diseases that occur at an advanced age (e.g. 70+) after decades of smoking.

But there are immediate short term benefits to smoking, like providing pleasure, fighting obesity, and boosting cognitive function.
