Nintendo EAD tokyo are nintendo's best team IMO. Although zelda U could change that view if it lives up to the hype.

Well I guess the real answer is we don't know, since the team has been forced to try to remake the success of Ocarina for the last 15 years.
I'm sure it would, it would be surprising for a Nintendo home console to not have its own Zelda, which is why i feel Zelda U will only be on Wii U :P

I don't think Nintendo's next console will exist in it's own vacuum, rather I think NX will have 2 pieces of hardware, NX itself will technically be the OS, the hardware runs the OS and any games Nintendo makes for it will work on either device.
In this ecosystem a new Zelda made for NX wouldn't be exclusive to the console hardware, but it would technically be exclusive to NX.
The console can scale performance of the games up and the handheld scales down some visual features to make them less demanding, but at it's core the game will play the same and all gameplay features will be intact.
I think the Wii U and NX will both get the most current Legend of Zelda game, so I that wouldn't be exclusive to NX, but there will eventually be another LOZ exclusive to the NX ecosystem, not exclusive to one piece of technology anymore.
In fact I think where 3DS would get a few Zelda releases and Wii U has had to wait the 3DS/handheld Zelda games will come to the whole NX ecosystem and that way Nintendo can release more Zelda games, across the whole install base each generation. Nintendo will be able to sell more releases and move more software that way.

It's reassuring to read some posts here, but I really don't buy the whole "they can reuse the assets" thing. Except for Majora's, which is a totally different situation, they always use new engines/assets for the game. If NX is about as powerful as an XB1 as some rumors say, I think reusing this engine would hold the game's potential, so they wouldn't do it.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

If they don't reuse the Zelda U assets and engine, they are going to need another four-five years to release a new Zelda (or even more, given that the tech allows for bigger and more complex worlds and mechanics). That would be really worrying, specially with all the delays Nintendo takes with Zelda. Fans would not like having only two Zelda games per decade, even if they try to fill the space with spinoffs and remakes.

True. But I guess that'll be the case.
Regarding the spin offs/remakes I think they aren't enough to please fans because honestly they are not that great. They are all solid atempts, but nothing groundbreaking. If they did a legimitimate spin off, with AAA aspect, I'm sure people would be satisfied and wait patiently. For one I'd love a spin off where you'd play as Princess Zelda, or even a hack n slash (in the soul of Platinum Games' games) featuring Impa mixed with some stealth mechanics.

My ideal Zelda spinoff would be a 2 player co-op game. One player controls Link (uses items and tunics, better with sword) and the other one controls Zelda (uses all kinds of magic, better with archery). A more linear experience to avoid travelling in an open world with two people, just go from dungeon to dungeon, all the puzzles and bosses need collaboration to be completed. Less focus on exploration and more in character interaction (combat combos with both characters, competition similar to that on FourSwords, cutseces and ingame dialogue between them, voice chat during gameplay...). It would be similar to Portal 2 co-op, but with Zelda.

Wow, that sounds pretty cool actually. I'd be happy with a spin off on this model as well.
This only goes to show that there are many great possibilities for Zelda, and I'm sure people here have other bright ideas too. It's really up to Nintendo to really expand the franchise... it's not that difficult.
