Forums - Nintendo - the Wii U is not getting replaced this year, guys

The only Nintendo teams working on current gen titles are the Zelda team and SF 0 (co developed by Platinum).

TPHD - Tantalus
Pokken - late arcade Namco port
SMTxFE - late localization, already released

So no. No Nintendo team is working anymore on Wii U games. And before you mention Pikmin 4 I need you to come and give me source where Nintendo confirms as a Wii U game.

Retro Studios released Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in February 2014.

Retro: Their last game released early 2014, about 2.5 years before when people think the NX will release. I doubt they were given dev kits back then, so they must be working on something else.

Or they had a nice long vacation after the Tropical Freeze release. ;)

Question: Do they really need the dev kits to begin the work on a new game or are general infos (available RAM, approximate graphic power, desired resolution and framerate of the game) enough to get started on big parts of the assets (story, genre, art style, level design, limits of the level size, complexity of 3d-models and textures, music, sound effects, voice recordings, prerendered cinematics...)?

I applaud your honesty. But i have debated for pages on end with them. They just don't want to see it and think Nintendo is hiding this beastly potencial as a development company even though they can hardly develop many HD games without delays. Nintendo's president said that they aren't replacing the Wii U, he has said that this year they will reveal details about the NX aka not releasing.
But lets have our fun as they ride the denial train till it crashes and burns at E3. I'm gonna be sure to cash in my laughs then.

Obviously the NX will only come out next year at best if its a home console. There is a small chance it makes it if its a handheld. As to what its replacing or not we will have to see when its revealed.

There is no way to tell given the information we have.

I agree, it's annoying when people say "don't get this, the NX is coming this year. Just look at all the signs." There is absolutely no sign that points to 2016 release. It's just fan's wishful thinking that makes them bend the truth to fit what they want.

Alternatively, it's also annoying when people say the NX has no chance of coming out in 2016. If you do this, you are just as bad as the other guys. We have absolutely no evidence that the NX will skip 2016. And yet you have people thinking "how can you be dumb enough to think te NX will come in 2016." Again this is just wishful thinking to say it absolutely can't come out in 2016.

Everyone just needs to chill and wait for Nintendo to make an official announcement.

its been a real annoyance watching people live their lives as if this NX thing is releasing 2016, end of story. look, guys, it isnt happening. if anything, we might see a 3DS replacement. but the wii u? definitely not getting replaced this year. did you guys know that nintendo is still selling this console for $300? when in history was a console $300 the year it got replaced? never, that's when. nintendo is making money off the wii u right now, and they will all year. 2017 might be a good year to replace the wii u. right now, nintendo is still showing incredible support on all of its wii u software, and you guys honestly think that this console is going to be dropped by the end of the year? it isnt happening. i have declared that it isnt happening, and that is the end of it.

discuss.

2016 is looking "okay" for Wii U software-wise, it has like 6 Nintendo games. But can you imagine how 2017 would be? Would they ride this system with 2 or 3 filler games for an entire year? I guess not. That's why most people think the NX, be it handheld of home console or both, will release this year, or at the very least the first NX model.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

If they release NX before Holiday 2017, they will be shootibg themselves in the foot and it would be WiiU all over again. This thing needs a proper gen shift to be relevant. It will be only slightly stronger than the PS4, IF AT ALL and that won't be enough to shift momentum from PS4 OR X1 for that matter. People are going to follow their friends and that ship has sailed for the most part.

People who buy the NX if it is released too soon will consist of Ninty fans and multi console gamers. In short, the same as the ones that bought the WiiU.

Huge difference is that Wii U had so many mistakes done by Nintendo (that are well known), and only people who buyed Wii U are mostly Nintendo fans, NX probably will probably not have majority of those mistakes and Nintendo will probably aim to make far more appealing, similar to Wii.

Problem is they have the reputation of the WiiU shadowing over it.  They need to break that and making the same release scheduling mistake (yes it would be a mistake) will do little to prove that things are different.  Also they will never recapture the Wii audience.  That hit to the casual market was a one hit wonder as they have all moved to mobile, so targeting that audience would hold it back as well.

It wouldnt be same relase scheduling beacuse Wii U was relase only one year before PS4/X1, while NX will be relase at least 2 years before PS5/X2 and probably around 3 years, basicly in middle of generation.

They will not aim just casual market, they will aim core and casuals in same time, with Wii they aimed casuals, with Wii U they aimed core gamers, but Wii U had to many big problems to be successful and popular console.

Name one mid gen release console that did remotely well.  Look at the Dreamcast, XBox original, and the WiiU.  What do they all have in common?  They all underperformed during their time.

As much as you may want the NX out sooner, it will be a failure if it comes out too soon.  Dance around it all you want, it won't change reality.  Mid gen releases are the horrible strategies and never work.  Facts will always outway what anyone wishes to happen.

Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-5643-2927-1984

Animal Crossing NH Dream Address: DA-1078-9916-3261

We will see one form of NX launch this yr, and that is most likely the HH. The home version probably won't launch at the same time, and since it'll be within the NX family (most presume), should not get a holiday release, instead likely come out several months after the HH.

Nov. 16 Nintendo NX portable
Mar. 17 - ??? NX home

If both get pushed back by half a year, ie both hw forms launching in '17, it will be a big shock, hard to imagine Nintendo letting its business drag through the mud for that long.

But a 2017 launch would still be a mid gen release. So a NX-console is doomed until they wait for the launch of PS5 + Xbox Two?

It's because that stupid tablet is keeping the price abnormally high, and nintendo doesn't have the manufacturing expertise of Sony or even MS (Nintendo is just a FAR smaller company).

Nothing is set in stone that NX will come out this year, but it is the perfect time and AMD has said they will.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

My personal feeling is the central NX hardware model is a portable console (it can function as both, hence it's a new type of game platform) with a processor in the same ball park as things like the Tegra X1 and Apple A9X chip, which are powerful but not actually that expensive for the processor.

This model they are aiming for November 2016, whether they can make that who knows, but I think they are trying hard because Wii U and 3DS (at this stage) sales are both mediocre quite honestly and they probably don't want to waste another fiscal year with just those two. 3DS needs to be replaced even if you don't think the Wii U does.

Other more specific models (ie: maybe a home only console) may come later as 2017 and even 2018 go along but these will simply play the same games as the NX releasing in 2016 does, just maybe with better graphics (for the dedicated console). Or they may just ditch the console and go with that "supplementary add-on" that they patented for more power.

There's no such thing as a portable console.

Which is why Nintendo will make it. Because they like to be the first to do stuff.

There was no such thing as a touch-screen portable or a motion gaming console before 2004 and 2006.
