It's about spacing. When you have as few releases per year as Nintendo does this gen, it makes more sense to pace them consistently than to fart them all out at once followed by months of nothingness.

4 games in 3 months followed by E3 get that covered. we'll see more games announced even if they're small.

Which 4 games?
At the moment, the official dates are:
Twilight Princess HD: 4th March
Pokken: 19th March
Starfox: 22nd April
That's 3 games in 2 months.

chances are smt x fe western release will be right before or after those 3.

Chances are, SMT x FE will be coming whenever the dryest part of the year is in order to draw attention to it. Sales in Japan haven't been bad, in fact, I'm sure they're basically on par with expectations. What that means though is that sales haven't been all that impressive the past three weeks since launch, what should be one of the strongest sales times for a game (source: Wikipedia). If Japan isn't falling all over it, you can guarantee reception here will probably be about on par with a Dragon Quest release, for a numbers reference, if the game releases during one of the only high activity periods of release the Wii U will experience all year.
Combine that with the fact that Nintendo is still slow as hell about localizing in an age where near simultaneous region releases is actually becoming more of an expected standard, and I wouldn't expect the game in the first half of 2015. I would expect a late summer release, with the release date announced around March or maybe as late as E3.
Even then, I wouldn't count on the game to pull off much. The SMT fan base is really spread out and is likely primarily focused on the ever delayed Persona 5, while the Fire Emblem audience is basically entirely on the 3DS at this point.
