"the best month yet for Xbox Live global engagement and Xbox One sales in the U.S."

I'm sure everyone can figure out whats wrong with this statement. Every month has to be the best month yet for engagement because sales can't be negative. Quite literally, the more people that buy the Xbox One, the more people that play Xbox One. This is stupid.

Clearly it wasn't the best month for Live 'engagement' in the US. And what an ambiguous word to use anyway. When does spin become grasping at straws?

YTD 2015

PS4 - 5740K (+23% YoY)
XB1 - 4940K (+13% YoY)
WIU - 1340K (-14% YoY)
Rounded to the nearest 10k
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=192255897&postcount=1590

VGC 2015 USA:

PS4 5,693,234 (+19%) 12,359,178
XOne 4,922,510 (+14%) 11,066,488
WiiU 1,409,785 (-15%) 5,158,806

Pretty good tracking there, with one week left to report PS4 should be pretty spot on, Xb one spot on too and Wii U only slightly over tracked.

And some people still say CoD is dead.....

Cod releases every year, when will it show fatigue. Love it or hate it but COD is a beast.

US LTD for MW3 and BOII

MW3 - 13,874,229

BOII - 12,459,475

Is it dead? No. Is it showing fatigue? Yes for sure. It is definitely past its sales peak. There is actuyally a reasonable chance that BOIII will become the biggest selling CoD on a single platform, on PS4 it only needs to sell another 4.32 million to go ahead of MW3 on X360. Unfortunately because of the Xb one situation globally CoD on Xb one will never break any records. So LTD across all platforms CoD will never get back to its peak performance.

That top 10 of 2015 is depressing as shit. Same old, same old. It's a far cry from the 90's.

1. [Guns]
2. [Sports]
3. Fallout 4
4. [Guns]
5. [Guns]
6. [Sports]
7. Minecraft
8. [Sports]
9. Mortal Kombat X
10. [Guns]

We wanted videogames to be mainstream. We got it.
Careful what you wish for.

FO4 is basically guns, in the form of a RPG, so it's really.

1. [Guns]
2. [Sports]
3. [Guns]
4. [Guns]
5. [Guns]
6. [Sports]
7. Minecraft
8. [Sports]
9. Mortal Kombat X
10. [Guns]

Nothing new under the sun, really. For example, platformers and, to a lesser extent, fighting games ruled the 16-bit era. Going by Wikipedia's list of best-selling games, the top 10 games of that generation (individuals SKUs only) were:

1. Super Mario World
2. Sonic the Hedgehog
3. Donkey Kong Country
4. Super Mario Kart
5. Street Fighter II (SNES)
6. Sonic 2
7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
8. DKC2: Diddy's Kong Quest
9. Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)
10. Three-way tie: Star Fox; Aladdin (Genesis); Yoshi's Island

Or to put it another way:

1. [Running & jumping]
2. [Running & jumping]
3. [Running & jumping]
4. [Racing]
5. [Fighting]
6. [Running & jumping]
7. Zelda
8. [Running & jumping]
9. [Fighting]
10. Three-way tie: [Shoot 'em up]; [Running & jumping]; [Running & jumping]

A dozen games selling over 4 million copies, and seven of them were platformers, two were Street Fighter II, one was Mario Kart, one was Zelda, and one was Star Fox.

The most popular games have always tended to be limited to a narrow range of genres.

Yes, but the difference back then was that the market wasn't as dominated by "casual gamers/dudebro's" as it is today.
As such, it was easier for core gamers to relate to the top 10 lists. And get more of those games, since them charting the highest encouraged developers to keep making them.

Not saying I never enjoy the occasional shooter or sports game, but gat damn...

So, you're fine with the market being dominated by "kiddie" games but not games with guns or sports games?

Yes it was. It's just that "Casual gamers/dudebros" liked platformers and fighters back then.

I'd like to say 2 things.

#1 shadow should be an ambassador on this site for his epic graphs

#2 let's all move our minds back to October when we were told the console market was dead. so happy seeing ps4/X1 stomp all over 360/ps3. The longer this goes on for the more likely they'll never be caught by their last gen counter parts combined :)

Am I reading that right? PS4 up YOY by 48%? Dayum son they must be bundling them with American flags

#1 Amb-ass-ador

The top 10 is actually full of games made with the highest quality. OK they're mainstream but why does that have to be associated with being bad. Are there any legit reasons for Hating on these games?
