I wonder. If the NX really is both a console and a handheld, would it still be considered competing against Sony and MS...? I guess they would only compare the console half of it.

Depends.  If the NX doesn't do well, Sony/Microsoft fanboys will say yes -- it is directly competing.   If the NX does well, they'll give complete credit to the handheld portion and rationalize that it's because Nintendo doesn't have any competition in that market.  Personally I think a unified library would make a Nintendo handheld or console successful because a lot of Nintendo fans (especially this generation) have been longing for one Nintendo device that had access to Nintendo's complete library.

Hmm, I also do wonder if the NX is split, will people buy both or will they buy only one of them, as well as if it would be alright of the sales skewed to one device over the other? It would seems a bit of a waste if only one of the 2 ended up selling well. Would seem like the other was a bit of a waste of them.

Well, as long as the NX is successful enough, I guess that is fine enough?

I think with a unified library and a universal Nintendo account, Nintendo would not care how much each device sold as long as you're a part of their ecosystem buying software.

I think something like 20-30 million consoles & 50-70 million handhelds would be a nice number putting the total between 70-100 million.

Yeah, and as long as both devices together have good hardware and software sales! xD

Well, putting the Wii U and 3DS together, they're already almost there. That's not too bad, right?

Ya, 3DS+Wii U is currently around 70 million and will probably top out around 80-85 million, their problem is that they are two distinct platforms with little to no similarities and have completely separate libraries. If they were a unified platform with a shared library than they would be in a much better situation with those numbers.

Hmm, I see. Well, I am hoping Ninten does better with the NX, at least around that combined numbers.. I feel like it's still hard to be certain what the NX is going to be, even though it seems certain it will be a split device.

Mobile will probably be Nintendo's very last resort if things ever come to that.

True, if they really were in a bad situation, I think they'd first try to develop multiplat games with broad appeal.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

PC. Nintendo will have no royalty fees to pay they will just make a steam competitor. No mobile. They won't pay royalties.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; NX is make or break for Nintendo.

This is the most critical hardware launch of their 33 years in the console business; if they mess it up, their days as a console manufacturer are over.

They can weather one Wii U level disaster, but if their next system fails just as badly, home consoles will no longer be a viable market for them.
