While very true, Smash is pretty much top dog in competitive tournaments, it still is nice to see it getting more popular.

So first Nintendo tries to stop Evolution from streaming a Melee tournament after thousands of dollars had been donated by people who wished to see it. Then Nintendo partners with Apex and suddenly Project M is gone from their official games lineup - despite the fact that Project M was the second largest game at the event the year before. Shortly thereafter, Twitch.tv starts preventing partnered streams from showing Project M content. As a result, no significant tournaments will ever be streamed on their site. Nintendo won't admit it, but everyone knows that they are responsible. Now Nintendo partners with Genesis and suddenly you are not even allowed to play friendly matches at the venue.
Nintendo intervening with the competitive scene is nothing short of a disgrace. And people saying that we should be grateful that Nintendo won't simply shut the whole thing down are even worse.
^ as I mentioned in my previous post, Project M was already at a slippery slope. We're talking about a franchise that composes of multiple Nintendo IPs that have the likeness of the characters, original music, original renders and models, etc. being represented. These IPs, along with Smash itself, are treated as sacred by Nintendo. That's just how they go about their business. And that's not to mention the third-party series that joined in (can't imagine how a mod of the current build of Smash 4 would have survive with Cloud, alone, being part of the roster).
Again, both sides have decent points so it's kinda complicated.
Congrats, these are good signs. Hopefully Splatoon and other games get this treatment next gen!
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

FINALLY someone that has relevant background information that knows what I'm talking about, instead of being so naive about everything. I agree that Nintendo should just back off unless they actually mean business, and from what I see, they're only detracting it.
Also keep in mind that the Apex series was running pirated Melee copies, whereas Project M, a mod that has always been free from the community for the community, is banished that set course to a huge waterfall.
Great! This is such a smart (and unexpected) move from nintendo.
