For cartridge based consoles I prefer the original hardware, although in some cases with expensive games I may consider playing with a VC copy instead. I tend to avoid playing with PS1/Dreamcast discs though, if there is an alternative on PSN/Steam I'll go with that instead.

I tried getting Sonic Adventure via Steam and it didn't work. Guess my PC isn't really for gaming. -_-

Sorry to hear that : . With some games it can be a bit of a struggle. I've never had problems with Sonic Adventure on Steam but getting Ultimate Doom to work was a pain in the ass.

Both! I collect some games and hardware and I play on emulators.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Emulators, because trying to find the original game and hardware is really difficult and expensive :/

Original whenever possible, emulation for the rest.

Emulation - save states, not needing multiple systems hooked up, ability to modify the visuals to make it different from the original, play region locked games without having to worry about being region locked.

Edit: Also dont have to worry about running out of copies especially if you have the option to buy games on DD storefronts like Steam, PSN, eshop, VC.

That and having them all in one space on one platform custs down on the physical space for me and makes everything simple without much hassle involved.

I would still like to play on the original system for some games but getting older systems to work with modern TV's becomes tedious compared to emulation in general for me. This is why I jumped at the chance to grab some of my fave Zelda titles from the VC section on the eshop.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

To be perfectly honest, I prefer original hardware over emulation.

Emulation. Not really finding any positives to using the original hardware.

Emulators for anything cart based or otherwise impractical to collect. Original hardware for optical media since isos get too large. Flashcarts for handhelds

Original hardware.

Playing on emulator is like those vegetarian meat substitutes, vegan bacon and all that crap, it's just not the same.

Original hardware. Although emulation is more convenient, no need to find and install your old consoles just to play one old game.
