The Wii had a solid hardcore userbase but the majority of it was there for the 3/4 years of motion control fad.  That's gone and you see what's left with the Wii.  About 15m users.

My point is that the Wii in Japan most certainly didn't sell to the minimum of its potential and the ps3 definitely did.

Um are you serious right now? Please tell me you're not serious. I don't even know where to start with this messed up logic. Are you really counting the first 3-4 years as Motion control fad and saying that the 15M after were the ones who cared, in other words when the console was at its end is when the people who wanted it for the "hardcore" games picked it up? i'm sorry but this argument does not hold up and it never will.

Isn't it ironic how you claimed I was missing someone's point and now you're missing mine.

I'm not talking about the 15m Wii's that were sold after the mass market got bored of motion controls, I'm talking about the 15m Wii U's that will be sold this gen. I know a million or two likely still wanted the gimmicky motion games but most of the Wii U install base are core Nintendo gamers.

So yeah once you eliminate everyone who jumped on the bandwagon for the motion thing you're not left with a huge core gamer install base.

this argument is also flawed. Wii U selling poorly has nothing to do with Mass market getting bored of mtion controls. Nintendo and their terrible marketing, ton of gaming droughts among other things was why its selling at its current pace. This logic makes no sense dude.

It makes perfect sense.  Nintendo could market the Wii U up to the wazoo and it still would fail.

Nintendo have never had proper 3Rd party support since Sony took over to fill the droughts.  Their core has gotten smaller since the n64.  the Wii was an anomaly due to everyone and their grandmother wanting the thing.

The Wii was a once off fad that people got bored of and moved on
.

No, some of you want to see the wii like a console that sold only to soccer moms that played Wii sorts for a week and they forgot about it, but thats because some of you just dont want to recognise that Nintendo won. I may have to remember you that wii sold:

-2007: 16.5m
-2008: 24 m
-2009: 21m
-2010: 17m

The console was selling like a beast 4 consecutive years, Ps3 and Xb360 never reached those highs in all their lifes, so much for being a "fad", and even when the console went down in 2011, it still sold more than WiiU in all its life, if the interest for the console was so short, then how the hell was selling more than Ps4 even on its 4th year? And how they sold +10 m of units on its lowest year before its succesor? Sounds just like excuses to me.

Amazing numbers, but in the end only the lifetime numbers count and not the numbers achieved in one year, right?
Take a look at the hardware lifetime numbers, Wii only beat PS3 with a gap less than 15M. 15M is not much, especially not enough to call Wii the beast of the 7th generation like a lot people do. A beast would be the PS2, it outsold ALL the competition 3x in lifetime numbers.
Oh and in the end PS3 sold more software than Wii, though I remember that the Wii was the most heavily bundled console ever with games like Wii Sports or Mario Kart Wii.

That is so dumb. How can you know the amount of "dedicated users" the console had? You take a number out of your ass and thats it? Sure the Ps3 and Ps4 have a 100% of dedicated users right? Of course.

Lets take an exemple, Mario Galaxy 2 was released on Wii lowest year, 2011, it managed to sold 7.5 m of copies, Uncharted 3 was released the same year, and, like Mario in wii, is one of the favourite games of Sony "dedicated userbase", it sold 6.8m. So.... I guess if Wii dedicated userbase was a 15%, Ps3 dedicated userbase must be even lower... following your broken logic of course.

Being the third highest selling console of all time is to sell like beast, you can call it what you want, but those are some beast sales, Ps4 is already considered a beast yet it hasnt outsold the 2, 3 or 4 year of Wii, so if Ps4 is a beast for that, then wii is of course also a beast.

Yes it has.

15M is not much? lol... Its a huge gap, don't pretend okay. The Wii was a beast there is no denying it. The last tme I checked we determine the console wars in one of two ways, Most hardware and Most profit. Usually you go by most hardware. Wii outsold PS3 therefore it won the generation. Ps2 won its generation as well doesn't matter how much it outsold the competitors by.

Now Let's go back to the topic, Who sold the most hardware the wii, which made the most profit the wii. Which console after its almost 10 year life was just about breaking even, ps3. This argument is pointless and all you guys are doign is trying to deny the wii. Don't deny it, don't call it a fad. It happened, it was amazing, it was the fastest selling console at its time. Alright? Alright.

Yes it has.

It is on par with the fourth year, it did not outsold it, or at least not by a lot, and is pretty far from the 2nd year of Wii.

Sorry but I don't think that you know what you are talking about.
Wii U gets a lot ads here in Germany, tbh even more than PS4 and Xbox One, but the most people just doesn't care for it because they know that it is the same thing like the Wii and this is true.

Nintendo tries everything to sell the Wii U to the people, just take a look at the big games which released this year in Japan for Wii U. Xenoblade Chronicles X got a bundle, Super Mario Maker got a bundle and Splatoon got a bundle. Yeah, of course terrible marketing...

I think this site needs a facepalm emoticon cause I've done it too many times from reading you vita brothers' posts. Nintendo tries everything to sell the Wii U to people? are you serious right now? If they did do you really think ninty fans would be complaining right now? If they advertized it a lot do you think people would still be confused when it comes to Wii and Wii U? Look right, I don't live in Germany and it is a very small part of the market so I don't know how much truth there is to this statement. And oh boy you mention bundles... oh boy... dude do not walk that path with me. I am telling you right now if I go and look up every special edition bundle, and crazy deal the ps4 has had it would easily eclipse the number of the same for Wii U, which was out for an entire year before the ps4 launched.

I don't see why you guys are getting so crazy defensive about this at all.

You are the first person of the history of this forums that says WiiU had a lot of marketing, and the first on the history of ever that says it had more than Ps4 and XBO, so that's your credibility, in my experience, I had to explain a ton of people with a Wii what a WiiU was because they didnt know shit about it even on 2015. Yeah, marketing everywere.
