I've looked at the mobile market, from a gaming standpoint, it doesn't make sense to make a 720p device if 98% of the games on mobile devices look like 360p or lower and the other 2% are racing games that aren't free to play.

Nintendo will have as it's only competitior the Steam Boy (which I predict will bomb SOOOOOOO HARD) and the Steam library is the one that is the most similar to mobile libraries: there's a lot of games, shure, but MOST of them play and look as absolute garbage, Nintendo instead with a low-medium screen will keep offering it's high profile games with extremely good quality that gives sense to the price of the game.

What the hell is the point of "great quality" if you don't even have the decency to go at least 540/720p in 2016? "nintendo quality" my ass.

the point is that at least the gameplay is good, while mobile games have repetitive gameplay, microtransactions and as I stated previously they don't even take advantage of the specs of the mobile devices in the majority of cases. plus if Nintendo released one year ago the N3DS for 150$ don't you think they could realize a 480/540p device for the same price if not even lower ?

You still didn't answer my question.

We all know the gameplay is good. However, there are times where even casuals will complain about the weakness and low resolution.

And the N3DS was a chance to squeeze out a bit more of cash out of the 3DS family. There's a bigger need for a higher resolution handheld for the NX than the 3DS, especially if the hybrid system-handheld rumor is true

I answered your question, verry simply there aren't high resolution games that take advantage of said resolution on whatever other device because it's the Handheld market. I agree that Nintendo needs to push power with their NXDS but I don't see them going further than 540p and honestly knowing their aproach to higher specs I would be surprised if they did so...

Many games can use the advantage of higher resolution.

It'll help Nintendo port games much easier. It'll also help 3rd party support increase dramatically.

Imagine all the ports Nintendo can potentially create by upping the resolution?

Why not!? We can say that 720p/60fps is standard for Wii U because most of Wii U games works at 720p/60fps and we even have Smash Bros that running at 1080p/60fps, so they probably will go for 1080p/60fps with NX home console same they go for 720p/60fps with Wii U.

More like, why? The PS4 and X1 struggle to achieve that now, there's on a handful of titles that do, and even with optimization and familiarity with the hardware, this may be a benchmark that is only achieved regularly at the latter end of the generation. So why would Nintendo shoot for a standard that even its competition isn't really acheiving? What's the benefit? If they want the NX to be successful, it has to be affordable, and by that I mean so much cheaper than a PS4/X1 that people will practically impuse buy it. If you want an affordable console, it means it has to have cheaper hardware, and that means less power.

I don't care if Smash Bros pulled it off on the Wii U. Gran Turismo also pulled it off on the PS3, yet it's still a challenge for the PS4 to pull it off. Just can pull it off in this one game, with this one particular engine, and this one particular graphics style that lends itself to less complicated rendering so that the resources are available to actually achieve this does not mean mean that this should be something that Nintendo should strive to achieve for every game

Because Nintendo doesn't make graphicly very hungry power games, like I wrote, with Wii U they pushed 720p/60fps like standard for their games, they can definitely make standard 1080p/60fps for their NX games with XboxOne similar power.

simplify their games only to reach that target (with a few exceptions such as Virtua Tennis 4 or NBA Street Homecourt).

Smash Bros isn't demanding though.

Try a game such as GTA or fallout at 1080p@60FPS. You'd need a $1000+ PC just to do that.

thinking nintendo can make all games 1080p@60FPS just because of Smash Bros is naive

No its not demanding, but again they achieved that on Wii U hardware and most of other Nintendo Wii U games work on 720p/60fsp, so with stronger hardware Nintendo will probably go for 1080p/60fps.

I shurely don't doubt that they could  make better ports, but I'm concerned about the price of said ports as well as the games released on the device, if they want the Handheld market to stay relevant then they really want to keep their average price for games at 40/45$, anything higher will simply help  mobile gaming...

480p? Day one buy!

We've got 4k screens on phones now. Hell, 720p is the average.

Have "ALL" games run @1080p/60fps...hm, what exactly does that mean? For example, you need AMD Fury X to run GTA V with very high settings in 1080p@60fps...that's GPU that is some 3-4x faster than PS4's GPU.

As much as I would love to see them make NX that powerful, I somehow doubt they will go berserk with their next console.

Did you know consoles do a lot more than PCs with a lot less?

Not really, these particular consoles maybe do a bit more with bit less.

750 Ti is somewhat slower than PS4's GPU, and while we don't know how much above locked 30fps PS4 is going in GTA V, this is how they perform with same settings (DF test, by the way).

But that was not the point at all, the very notion of console with "ALL" games in 1080p/60fps is silly to begin with, given that even current gen consoles can be "ALL" 1080p/60fps if devs decided to sacrifice visuals for resolution/framerate.

More about 750-800$. With AMD Polaris tecnology coming this year I belive they could likely run the large majority of Ps4 games 60@1080 with a console in the 400$ price range, but I believe it's still too expensive for Ninty. They should launch at a price on par with Ps4/Xbone, or less.

Not on high settings.

Sure, a lot of games could be run on 1080p@60FPS(especially with the new AMD tech), but the games such as GTA and other high-demanding games require a lot in order to efficiently run at 1080p@60FPS in high settings

Actually both games you mentioned can run 60fps1080p with a Geforce gtx960, a 250$ graphics card. Later this year, with AMD and Nvidia new architectures you'll get much higher performance per $.

Non the less it does have good games so Im still happy with it, but it could have been so much more.

Now imagine how us 80's kids felt playing on a fucking Gameboy lol.

Imagine kiddos playing the SNES

I predict I will buy their handheld and/or home console.
