Forums - Nintendo - Boy opens a WII u and got an Old PS2 inside the box from walmart

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

One Huntsville family got a big surprise this morning, but it wasn't the kind of surprise anyone wants to get. The family realized someone had tampered with a WII U box and switched out the WII for a PlayStation and an empty Amazon box.

The tree was decorated, the stockings were hung by the chimney with care and Santa brought exactly what Daevon had asked for.

That is, until he opened the box

"It was an old PlayStation 2 with the Wii U stickers and an empty Amazon Kindle Fire box,” Cassandra Burditt,  Daevon's mom said.

Daevon didn't know what to think.

"He started crying is what happened,” Burditt said. “He was devastated. He was like ‘what is this? Where's the Wii? Is this a joke?’"

It wasn't a joke and things got even more serious when Burditt tried to bring the Wii U box back to Walmart. The assistant manager refused to correct the mistake.

"Because it came from the secure box, and the department manager is the one who sold it to me, there was nothing they could do and I needed to call the manufacturer,” Burditt said.

The manufacturer told Burditt Walmart was the one to blame.

"I started to cry and stuff, I was done,” Burditt said.

On her third trip back Walmart, managers finally gave her the Wii U she paid for.

"They fixed it, but it's not right,” Burditt said. “Someone needs to be held responsible."

WAFF 48 reached out to corporate Walmart and got back the following statement:

"Taking care of our customers is a top priority. In this particular situation there was a misunderstanding by one of our associates regarding our return policy. Store management has taken care of the customer.”

Daevon now has his Wii U and Burditt said she'll make sure this never happens again.

"Before you buy any kind of electronics from anywhere check the box before you walk out and pay for that,” Burditt said.

Seriously Americans open the box first to see if the product is actually inside before buying it.

That's the job of the store employees. They should be checking every return/trade int hey get.

Reminds me when someone bought a PS4 from Walmart last year, and it was just a box filled with rocks.

Walmart really needs to check whatever electronics hat get returned from them, and I certainly know that I will never buy consoles from Walmart.

Also, this really shows that people should double check an expensive product before leaving, especially at Walmart.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Still, keep the PS2.

bet: lost

Better off with the PS2.

JK, I also got a Wii U for Christmas and Xenoblade X is my crack now.

Why would a thief return it with a PS2 inside and not something worthless or around that weight? I think some people might start to reverse the scam or already have. Buy a console and keep console but say that there was something else inside. They get two consoles for the price of one.

Exactly. Either way, Walmart needs better accountability, as something similar happened last year. Remember the box of rocks incident? Lol.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I wonder what the cost to Walmart would be to check the contents of every box on sale / trade-in. Vis-a-vis the cost of these handful of scams per year.

For a while (until maybe two or so years ago), a PS2 was about $20. Now that they're officially out of print they're slightly rising but these things were so cheap at one point that they were the bonus in online (ebay/CL/et alia) bundles, not even the selling point.

Also this one is probably broken. Why toss it when you can throw it in a box and if Walmart opens it during the trade-in they see a black game console and think nothing of it?
