Apple TV is second in market share.

They're actually 3rd, and that's behind Google who is a VERY distant 2ND.

That's not true. Unless you're talking about quarterly sales?

No, he's right.  The last few years Roku has been on top.  And once Chromecast launched it has been above Apple TV.  Only this last quarter has Chromecast jumped to #1 and Apple TV #2.  So, you would have to be talking quarterly numbers if you want to say Apple is #2.

So you're talking about the US market?

Even in that case it's not true-

I have a feeling some people in this thread just make stuff up.

It would be an even worse idea for MS, since there's would be launching 3 years after PS TV launched (then Vita TV), which really was on the tail end of a reasonable time to launch.  Granted they will probably not half ass it as much as Sony did (really, Sony, no Netflix support?)  Of course, those two about equal themselves out, with being too late probably being a little worse.

No.. The PS/Vita TV is a joke(It was not a PS4 TV)..never a fully realized product.. and it was gimped..   The Xbox TV/Mini would run FULL Xbox software..  So they would not be similar products by any means..    Microsoft is going to a ONE STORE idea.. thats what people aren't getting here..   This device would have Microsoft Store, because eventaully ALL WIndows products will...even the current X1..    It will be a small digital only device..   and they could sell it for $199..  with the current apps and TV intergration.. it would be a BETTER option then Apple TV or Roku..      (I dont compare to Chromecast as it is NOT a standalone streaming box)..

XBLive: cpg716     PSN ID: cpg716  Steam: Luv4Tech77

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:

PS4: 85-95m
X1: 55-65m
WiiU: 20-30m

I'd like to know what the Chromecast has to do in this discussion. Can it even play Android's large games? I thought this was about digital only mini consoles. It would be like to compare an iPod Touch with an MP3 player.

Let me highlight something for you.  Look up.

Anyway, doesn't matter.  It will have the same outcome as the Zune, Windows OS, Bing, and Surface.  Make no real impact on the market, cost MS millions/billions, and they will keep around much longer than need be.

No ones making anything up.  Maybe just looking at different info.  What I believe I was looking at was actual usage of these devices.

Interesting that Apple comes in 3rd for 2014.  My guess is Apple fanboys buying it just to have Apple, but not using it too much.  Either way, it still looks like the Chromecast will pass it very very shortly, as they have already sold 20M as of Sept and Apple sold 25M as of March.  Of course, Chromecast's numbers are for only 2 years 2 months, while Apple's are for 8 years and 2 months.

I remember the rumours Microsoft were considering an Xbox TV like device a few years back during in last gen. I think if they were going to go ahead with such a device that would of been the time to do it, that market has increased in competition dramatically since then with loads of different smart TV devices, sticks, android like console devices etc.

I just don't think it will be worth it for Ms to bother at this point.

I'd rather they create a XONE slim without the disc drive and only the bare bones and an small flash drive for the OS and you plug in your own HDD or use an internal one. That'd boost sales one hell of a lot, since a XONE at $200 ought to represent a huge price slash...
