Forums - Gaming - 2016 The Year Of VR

Yeah, it will take time. 2016 only the early adopters will buy it.

In the video they compare it to smartphones, "which were suddenly everywhere over night"... That also at least 2 - 3 years.

The first generation of VR tech will be mostly experimental and the PS4 will set hardware limitations. VR will get probably a big push with the PS5 + PSVR2 and XBox Two + "Xbox VR" (more affordable, smaller and lighter goggles, wireless...) in 2019/2020.

I doubt VR will become wireless anytime soon. First of all wireless technology isn't even close to provide the net data rates that are needed for VR. We'd need at least 10 Gbps and today's commercial wireless transmitters can't even reach 1 Gbps. Next thing is that any wireless connection adds delays, aka the worst enemy for VR. That doesn't even count for interferers who could cause delay spikes making everyone motion sick.

I think it's fair to say that proper wireless VR will not happen within the next 10 years unless they put all sensor and rendering computation within the headset, but then it's a standalone device anyway which would make bundling it with consoles obsolete.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Okay, wireless is more a wish than an expectation (unless they include li-fi transmission in the next consoles), but the rest will happen.

New VR solutions will come to make the experience more comfortable and the PSVR + Oculus Rift CV1 will look dated.

I'm actually thinking that VR is going to flop pretty badly. A lot of people don't want to game with an annoying headset over their eyes, and especially not if the headset's expensive.

Don't worry, VR won't replace the "normal" gaming on TVs. Many genres aren't even suited for VR.

VR will offer new gaming experiences that you can't get otherwise, some new genres or subgenres will be born. And a few existing genres will work very good in VR... For example slow paced exploration games like "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" or suspense horror games like "Alien: Isolation".

Honestly every genre is possible with vr. Even games where you expect it would not improve much are really great like for example blazerush: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3izKK8bNRA

Oh yeah the reason why I mention blazerush because it also re released for PS4 so would be an easy PS vr game.

At first I had no interest but now VR is starting to look cool.

I just needed to quote this.

I really am looking forward to Eve Valkarie (sp).... that from what I've seen is the perfect type of game for VR.
