I could tolerate a spin off made by Platinum Games in which Samus is the ultimate action killing machine. But only if we have a main Metroid game (Prime or 2D, I don't care) first.

That sounds amazing to me...

So you want Other M 2, which I'm fine with. But Team Ninja (creators of Ninja Gaiden series of hack n slash) made Other M, and it showed in the flashy combat but more linear approach. Now think about what Platinum is making for Wii U? Star Fox, Bayo/2, W101. See some similarities there? All take a linear approach to level progression, all are about the over the top action sequences, as well as no Platinum game seems to compliment the same atmosphere as Metroid meaning Platinum would be VERY far out of their element. I'd personally LOVE to see it, but with Metroid fans I don't think it would go over well at all.

I also think a cel shaded Metroid could be amazing. I'm one of those rare people who will allow people (especially other studios) to interperate characters the way they want. I don't want every studio that gets their hands on Metroid to copy Retro. As crazy as that sounds.
| Soundwave said: I didn't think gameplay wise Other M was that bad at all. It was a cool game, it just had horribly cheesy CGI cut scenes (though pretty) and got crapped on because it wasn't the Metroid game that Metroid purists wanted. I wouldn't mind a Platinum take on that concept, but maybe use a different bounty hunter than Samus so it's a spin-off. |
Other M had other faults that deterred from the enjoyment of the game too.
The production values were really good with most things though, including the CGI cut scenes. But the game had other shortcomings besides the story presentation or characterization of Samus.
I don't see where the problem is :o IMHO Platinum would be perfect IF they co-developed it with Nintendo, and , since it's a Nintendo IP, that's guaranteed. Platinum has demonstrated to be able to make polish games with good gameplay/story, Nintendo only needs to keep them in the "Metroid Mode" where NOT ALWAYS the gameplay is full of action. Imho whatever canon Metroid game from one of the two series (prime and sidescroller) is well accepted by any developer, it's still better than no Metroid game at all, even if it results in Other M 2 ...

I wouldn't mind, but it doesn't really matter to me :p

I like Platinum Games. but nope. It wouldn't hold a candle to the Prime games.
