Forums - Gaming - Kojima Snubbing Xbox Is Microsoft’s Fault Alone

Title is pretty baity, article hardly says anything new 8/10

If both Microsoft and Sony pitched, MS would have to pay substantially more money, and even then it would still be in Sony's favor. Japanese Gamers and most gamers who like Japanese games don't care for nor expect such on Xbox even though 360 really did try.

Everyone going in would know it was a lost cause on the Microsoft side, and it would be a significant waste of money to establish a small foothold in a country of diminishing market size.

Well more importantly, Sony didn't get this exclusive because they are concerned about Japan. They're funding it knowing western consumers want Kojima games.

Sony's primary concern is gaining more marketshare in the west, not pleasing Japanese gamers. As you said, its a diminishing market.

If Kojima games were primarily or only popular in Japan, they wouldn't bother.

Bruh, Microsoft has Scalebound by Platinum and ReCORE by Keiji Inafune. They ARE trying, it's not the company fault, it's more like the fanbase and the general Xbox consumers.

This sterotype of the xbox player being a dudebro type... I wonder how valid it really is.

But yeah that Raise of the tombraider...  fanbases matter when decideing where to release.

Im pretty sure the same would be true if a gears of wars, game suddenly was exlusive on playstation... sales would suck.

Because Kojima is known for his games designed for the Japanese market. /s

Everything he has made, was aimed for a western audience. Boktai bein the only exception I can think of.

Zone of Enders?

He must have missed Gundam x)

Edit: I love this part of the article:

You can’t blame the 2010 Miami Heat for signing the biggest free agent in NBA history, LeBron James, despite how devastating it was to Cleveland economically. The same can be said about Sony, who just snatched up gaming’s biggest free agent for at least one game. Like how LeBron’s move in 2010 made sense since it put him closer to a title, Kojima’s new deal with Sony makes too much sense for the man himself and every fan needs to understand this difficult truth.

Well, the xbox 360 at start had a lot of Japanese exclusives to be honest, Star Ocean 4 was timed exclusive in Japan and series like DOA, Shenmue has a strong bond with the Xbox Brand, yet it still sell relatively low on the Xbox when you compare to PlayStation :P.

My point is, It wasnt Microsoft fault at all, they were and still trying their best to make the Xbox appealing to the Japanese consumers as well as helping the Xbox to be the new home for JRPG and the likes.

But it just never work :P.

And i wasnt stereotype them btw, just speakin in general, of course :).

Donuts are delicious too. They also don't have anything to do with my post. I was simply pointing out a fact about Kojima's tendencies as a developer, not outright denying everything the article said.

“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

And there are probably a few more. Like i said in that post, I could only think of one, but thats because he favors western audiences. There are exceptions to it, but they are sparse and not really significant.

Microsoft has done plenty in the past for Japanese market and they didn't budge. Lost Odyssey is still the best JRPG since its release yet that market didn't give an inch.

For a game to be a hit in Japan it needs a certain level of gimmicks involved in it. Ni No Kuni is a prime example. Average game outside of the Studio Ghibli collaboration.

Plus, Kojima's history with Playstation is obviously strong. There isn't anything MS could have done other than throw more money at him than Sony did, but in the end, I doubt this is not exactly a big loss for MS.

Can you imagine the uproar if he went near xnox. His fans simply are not there. MS are doing the smart thing lest they become the next Konami.

I definitely agree with you that there woud have been a backlash if MS had made Kojima an XBox exclusive.  That said, I also think a victory for Microsoft might have been keeping Kojima multi-plat like he was for MGS5, but this did not happen.  This is definitely a loss for the XOne and if I was in the market for a PS4/XOne right now it would influence my decision knowing that Kojima's work is not going to be showing up on Microsoft's console.  XOne is reminding me more and more of the N64 which is to say that it's a decent selling console with some amazing games but that as the generation goes on it's becoming really apparent that Sony is pulling way ahead.

That part of the article hurt ;~;

Don't worry their actions speak louder than words.  It's easy to dump on VGChartz for not having "official" numbers but at the end of the day VGChartz' guess is still way better than everybody's elses guess and so unless you really want to go digging somewhere, VGChartz is still the easiest place to go to get reasonable estimations of sales.
