Look at how the artist portrayed the Villager. He knows the true story behind Animal Crossing.....

Mario Bros. yeah, let him do what he wants because he's Nintendo's golden boy and has the different characters to back it. But this is just crazy. Too many spiky hair swordsmen in my smash. I have nothing against spiky hair swordsmen but there's just one too many. |
No I'm not kidding 6 characters who are unique to eachother with the exception of 2 is a fair amount, even then Marth and Lucina require two different approaches. Robin is a spell caster, Ike has his own style, Roy is changed from before and Corrin fights with a completely unseen style so yes it's a fair amount.

Yet Fire Emblem, which was a nearly dead franchise until a few years ago and whose best-selling game hasn't topped 2 million units sold (though Fates will probably surpass that), has 6 too. In the meantime, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and Metroid are all still stuck on 2 characters. For Metroid I guess it's understandable because there's not a lot to pick from, but there's no excuse for the lack of characters in the other two when Fire Emblem, a much smaller franchise is getting so many. |
Having characters to pick from doesn't mean you should just throw them into Smash, for one what are those DK characters going to add that DK and Diddy don't, FE is a good pool to choose from because the styles of the 6 characters is diverse, Marth and Lucina use the same style but require different approaches. With Star Fox right now I can only see Wolf being added in the next game as even though it has characters it's the same problem as DK.
Zelda the cast is pretty solid and rarely changes significantly as main characters goes, the nature of that series has those same characters constantly evolving which is why you won't see as much added from the series.
Even though I wasn't too happy with Corrin and Snake and Wolf are now dead and buried rip the Pichu dream ;(, it was still an alright Direct. Bayonetta and Cloud still look really solid to me

YESSS WE DID IT WE FUCKING DID IT EVERYONE!!!!
I remember sometime after the ballot started, a thread, on VGC, and Bayonetta had at least 100 votes in a thread poll supporting her.
:D

I like how they try to keep all newcomers unique and stuff, but Corrin just felt too unique, to the point where he just looked like a huge pile of weird and stupid gimmicks. Donkey Kong and Star Fox should have had more representation, and it's clear that characters like K. Rool, Dixie Kong and Wolf would have been fine additions. Hell even Krystal, as much as I hate her, could have been a solid character. It's harder to pick with Metroid, since there's not a lot of characters in that franchise that would work in Smash, but Dark Samus could be a nice addition if done properly (read: not be a Samus clone). As for Zelda, I understand how they're going for consistent characters in the franchise and are avoiding one-timers, but even then there are great picks that were consistent in the franchise, such as Impa and Ganon. |
A character like Dhalsim seemed too unique when he first showed up as do many fighting characters so I don't get this point of view at all as his unique approach is welcomed especially for competitive play.
It's all well and good demanding more representation and in a perfect world we would get that but again you haven't really stated how they could add what DK and Diddy or Fox and Falco don't. Right now I can only think of Wolf as he had a unique approach but other characters are likely not their because as of now the's nothing they can add to the selection
Smash may be a fan service IP but now it's also a more serious competitive fighter and tbh they've maintained a good blance in S4, the days of expecting them to add anyone just to represent a series is now over.

Yawn, it could be more diverse.
Consider me hyped! Glad we're getting more FE characters...the franchise deserves to keep growing, and Smash is great exposure for it. I voted for Zelgius in the poll...but I suppose this character is meant to be a tie-in to the upcoming game, similar to Roy and Ike were. I suppose he does have a costume though...
Personally, I consider the fighting styles to be more important than whether the character wields a sword or not. It makes about as much sense to complain about another sword-fighter as it does another talking animal in my mind. It's so top-level, and ignores the key differences between the different characters.
On a more negative note though....if those are the official English voices, I really hope Fates has dual audio. Please don't lock us into English-only. x.x
