XCX world is not precisely empty. And I think SotC world fitted a lot the story and setting.

You havent even played Xenoblade X dude, is not empty.
Why people just saying Zelda U world is empty!?
We already saw or we know that will be forests, rivers, lakes, hills, mountains, settlements, NPC, enemies, dungeons, goats, horses, dears, birds, insects...fact that Nintendo showed us so liitle doesnt meant that there will not be settlements, houses, caves or NPCs. Zelda U world does not look empty to me at all.
So you really can't compare Shadow of the Colossus world with Zelda U world, and X definitely isn't empty.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is empty? I'm sorry have you played the game? Lol it's far from empty.

We already know what a Zelda like this would play like... WW. One of the reasons that game got hate when it came out was due to endless, mind numbing sailing. For years, we all looked out at the oceans in our games, dreaming of sailing it and discovering it's many secrets only to see that dream crushed with the realization that in video games, it's some boring ass shit lol.
Unless they can come up with a way to make it exciting, we're probably all going to feel the same way about this game as well. Doesn't mean I won't enjoy the rest of the game though.

I think its much more interesting going through beautiful environment of forests, hills, fields, mountains, rivers, lakes...than just selling through flat ocean. So definatly will not be same feel, also Miyamotoo said there will be times where you forget what your goal is because you're doing other things on the side.
"There may even be times where you forget what your goal is because you're doing other things on the side," he said in a YouTube interview with iJustine. "There may be times where you go into one big, long dungeon or there may be times where you're headed to a dungeon, and you're doing other things along the side."

I have full confidence in Miyamoto and the team behind the game and expect them to figure this problem out.

Also, the sailing was basically a giant loadling screen, because the gamecube didn't have the power to make one truly connected world of that size work. So everytime you sailed from island to Island it used the ocean to load the next area.
Aonuma adressed that this made the world feel empty and unconnected, something he specifically said he wanted to rectefy in Zelda U. That makes me think he is aware of the problems many open world games suffer in regards to haveing a world that might be big, but has nothing to do in it. based on that statement, I think the Zelda U world will be only moderately big and tightly designed.
