Forums - Gaming - Prediction: Horizon Zero Dawn > Zelda BoTW

This is reason why we have No man's Nightmare right now. Can't people discuss without involving excessive hype?

Horizon is made by the Killzone developers, therefore I have my doubts about it´s actual quality, especially after other overhyped games that ended up disappointing like Drive Club, The Order and most recently No Man SKy.

BotW on the other hand, won quite clearly this years E3 looks like a content rich, complex and fun game. Sales potential looks also quite in its favour, since it generated more interest online and at E3 and will be a must-have buy for WiiU owners and NX early adopters and beyond.

Killzone 2 it's actually a pretty good game, so hopefully Horizon will be more like it instead of Shadowfall in terms of quality.

Man. Everyone is angry. But I think both games will have lots of commonness and entertain its market.

What do you expect.. Nintendo fans are hyping Zelda NX as the game that is going to save Nintendo much like how Neo is going to save everyone in Matrix. Any put down/let down, in their make-believe expectations like a post like this is going to cause an uproar.

Killzone 2 was amazing though, my favourite shooter last gen. Horizon is likely gonna do good critically looking at the raving previews, it's been in development for twice as long as Shadowfall. Driveclub was also well received by the fans. No Mans Sky and The Order are not 1st party, not sure why those games you listed would affect Horizon anyway. What are you insinuating? Because The Last of Us, Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 are one of the 3 best games of the last 10 years.

On the other hand, I have my doubts about BotW after Skyward Sword.

Sales wise, I expect a similar performance by both. Somewhere between 4 and 5 million.

This thread is already a bit of a mess. Some of you need to ease up, or it will be locked with potential moderations.

As a side note, if you want to discuss other games, don't do it on the basis of insulting the ones in here (or those, either). And, if you don't like the TC, that's the fine, but do not come in here to insult him.

Thanks mate.

What exactly was wrong with the Skyward Sword? Have you even played it? I doubt it. :)

So... you are beeing extremely generous with Horizon here. There is much we still don't know and it comes from a developer that doesnt have an excellence pedigree.
But the main reason i say this is because Horizon looks like nothing more than a graphical showcase atm. All the footage we have seen so far have been battle with one giant mecha-dinossaur. This shows us simply the combat. We don't see how the world is structured, how the game flows nor how interesting the story and tasks are. From what i saw, i see a Monster Hunter repetition syndrome (having to grind mats from the same mobs equals repetition and boredom).

So yeah... i don't share any optimism about the game.

Metacritic:

This doesn't matter. Wichever one the journalists decide to woo. The review are too biased or bought to even bother taking this into account.

Sales:
I don't think its a no-brainer. Horizon is a new IP. If it doesnt have stellar reviews it will be a major flop and even if it does, i'm not sure how much appeal it will have in the west. Again, the developer doesnt have the name a Bioware or Bethesda has. It will be a tough sell.
Zelda U will likely sell above 2m.

So... i would say in likelyhood Zelda, but it will depend on how good and how hyped (and release window). It will be close i think.

Graphics:

Tough call. If we go by tech, obviously horizon. But i think design is more important. I would need to see more of Zelda in action, but i think its safe to say Horizon will be a strong contender on this department.

End of the day, i will be very surprised if Horizon holds a candle to Zelda.

"Graphics, tough call"?  Just watch the video, Horizon is a least one generation ahead of Zelda on everything.

Anyways Horizon is for me the modern Zelda Ocarina of Time. It's what a modern Zelda should have being on a modern hardware. It's a new and ambitous adventure game, while recent Zelda are still the same old, same old reimagined Zeldas.

Technically Horizon Zero Dawn graphic is at least one gen in front Zelda BotW, but art style and actual beauty of graphic are subjective things, Zelda is looking beautiful while Horizon Zero Dawn graphics looks impressive it's not too different to some other modern games.

I really don't see how you can say that Horizon Zero Dawn is modern Zelda Ocarina of Time, Zelda OoT was revolution game and set standards for gaming industry alongside with Mario 64, while Horizon Zero Dawn at this point is just interesting new IP nothing more nothing less.

Talking about new Zelda, Zelda BotW is looking great in evry way, and has anything with previous Zeldas (Zelda Skyward Sword is also very different than previous Zeldas), expect maybe first Zelda on NES. There is a reasons why all reactions were great so far, game was easily most talked E3 game at socials media and won E3, and actually become one of most hyped Nintendo games ever.

The only thing Horizon will have over Zelda will be graphics and even that's a stylistic choice to be had. I feel that Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be 2017's Ocarina of Time, and that's something I didn't believe would happen when Eiji Aonuma claimed it himself but after seeing the breadth of the game, it's going to be unlike any Zelda game ever made. I bring that up because Ocarina of Time is still the best rated game of all time on Metacritic and I expect this to be at least a 96.

Nintendo has proven themselves with Zelda. The game will be highly reviewed. As for Horizon, this is coming from a company that has yet to prove itself and treads heavily on the Zelda principles and design aspects laid out before it. What I've seen from Horizon is a very linear experience with no conversation to be had after 100 people have played it. Unlike Breath of the Wild, everybody, more or less, had the same experience with the demo. To me, that's not very exciting.

Sales, since BotW is coming out on Wii U and NX, BotW might just pull ahead. The last Zelda game to have a dual release was Twilight Princess and it sold about 9 million units. Seeing that Horizon is PS4 exclusive, and not many exclusives get past 6 million... it would be a pretty bold statement to claim that Horizon, from a company that isn't well proven(outside the Killzone series), will outsell a game like say... Uncharted 4 by Naughty Dog which has only sold about 4-5 million units including digital. And uncharted 4 was hyped as hell, and rightfully so, it's an amazing game.

I haven't seen much in terms of marketing for Horizon. And Zelda, well, marketing for that is literally non existent but that's been true for almost every Zelda game. They'll have commercials around the time of release. So for me, Zelda BotW will at least sell 5 million units across NX and Wii U. Horizon being a new IP from an unproven company, I say 4 million at best. And if Youtube numbers are anything to go by, which most of the time they aren't, Zelda Breath of the Wild stands at 8,431,749 views with 5x the likes that Horizon has and Horizon Zero Dawn stands at 2,087,806 views with a 1 day head start over Zelda.

As for sales in terms of install base, yes, Horizon does benefit from having an install base 3-4x the size of the Wii U. But Nintendo's 1st party content sells really well on Wii U with Mario Kart 8 quickly approaching 8 million units. So if it was Wii U Zelda vs. PS4 Horizon, I'd say it'd be a close match with Horizon pulling ahead.

I've given my 2 cents. I'm going to end up playing both games to get a more concrete feel. I probably wont' be able to play them both as Horizon is set for February and Zelda probably march, and I'll be in full force an uni. But I'll get around to it. Horizon is a beautiful game, Zelda is a beautiful game. But I am going to root for Zelda because well...look at my currently playing list...I've been hit by the Zelda bug but that doesn't mean I can't give another game a chance and find what good it does have.

PS: Let's be more fair with Zelda's new clearer gifs:

Aonuma said they took the Skyward Sword complaints very seriously, and it shows. It will most likely be a much better game.
