Forums - Sony - Sony: 'Our 2015 first party lineup was not as strong as we would have liked'

No problem Sony, ps4 will still sell. I think they don't even need to release any exclusive anymore and would still win this gen easily.

That isn't the point. Or I guess since Sony isn't losing money from their consoles anymore, maybe it is from their point of view. The point is with the PS1 and PS2, those consoles had more exclusives than all of their competition combined as well as most of the multiplatform games. With the PS3, they lost a large number of exclusives as third parties chose to make their one-time exclusive franchises multiplatform due to rising development costs as well as the uncertainty of the PS3. Sony had to combat this by improving their first party efforts. With PS4, it's as if they know they are on top and so first party games or exclusive games aren't a priority, even thought they should be. Sony is survivng right now because of the PlayStation brand. Building exclusive software to help further define and distinguish that brand should be a priority.

well 1080p and japanese games would be still exclsuive to PlayStation, i wouldnt blame them

1080p isn't exclusive and I wonder how many millions of the growing PS userbase on PS4 buy a PS4 because of japanese games.

Game variety is king for building a large userbase.

My 8th gen collection

It wasn't strong that's for sure. Bloodborne saved the day for Sony.

2016 is gonna kick ass though!

Bloodborne was certainly the cherry on top, but I wouldn't say that it "saved" anything. Until Dawn, MLB, and The Order were still available (even if people didn't like/want them).

I feel Bloodborne is the only one to achieve the kind of quality I expect out of Sony's exclusives in 2015.

I know most aren't with me on this, but The Order was actually a very well made, quality title (meaning it wasn't broken or non-functional, which is why I'll never understand reviewers handing it 4 & 5/10s). Sure, there were things it lacked, but quality wasn't one of them.

On the flip-side, neither it nor Bloodborne were solely made by 1st party studios (despite some collaboration). As far as I'm concerened, they haven't even begun to show their hand, which is where 2016 will change everything.

I bought the game a couple of weeks ago at $10 and for that price I felt satisfied with it. I made a review of it, if you're curious about my full thoughts on it: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=210777

What is strange about listing AAA titles? I dont get your logic.

It's just by your wording: "Quantum Break, Scalebound, Gears of War 4, Killer Instinct: Season 3 & Forza Horizon and more will be dropping for Microsoft next year. Sony has Street Fighter 5, Uncharted, Horizon and a couple of other games but nothing substantial."

As if Sony "has a couple games, but nothing substantial", while your wording for MS is "has Gears, Forza and more."

Just the way it's portrayed, it really seems to make it sound like MS has a substantial upper hand with games next year.  Which by the vast majority of metrics, is most likely very far from the truth.

Sales:

Uncharted 4, Gran Turismo, are gigantic.  Halo has had gigantic drops and quite frankly at this point, I would not be surprised if Uncharted 4 sold far better.  This means that in sales, PS is now very far ahead.  These two games could likely sell pretty close to the same amount that the entire list you have for Xbox games.

QB could very well sell a couple million.

Scalebound might not sell well.

Forza next year will be the fourth title on Xbox One.  Could sell a couple million, but might sell less due to fatigue.

Gears has the potential to sell a great number, very well could be 4m or higher.

Uncharted could very well sell 6m.  Gran Turismo has a habit of selling 8m+.

Horizon very much depends on how well it is received, there's a gigantic amount of excitement for it though.

Critically.

Uncharted even at it's worst has been incredibly well recieved.

Gears has as well, but there's an issue with the upcoming Gears.  It's a new developer, which could do amazing things, or it could do awful things.

I said both will be even from the start in terms of AAA's was my point, but Microsoft is still remaining fierce with their AAA's. Outside of that Sony is decimating them. Again, I am only saying non-AAA's are nonsubstantial. We've also got to stop with the numbers next year. Uncharted and Gears will both sell but at the same time its a greatyear for new IPs from both companies. In truth, thats what its all about in my eyes. What makes Sony stand out to me is their dedication to new IP's and Microsoft is really pushing Quantum Break, so I cant wait.

Nah, the PS1 and PS2 didn't have that many exclusives within the first two years (certainly not more than all of their competitors combined).

As I've always said. Sony is slow in their first two years with pulling out first party AAA but once they get started hitting their third year, no one can stop them. Its just a habit of theirs that i've noticed since I was a kid. I still love the brand though.

That's not the criteria you were using, as you had KI S3 (what?) there and were missing many PS4 AAAs. It's your "logic" that one can't "get" because this is what you did:

"Here, let me present X1 AAAs: proceeds to list a few and pads it with one irrelevant DLC update. Now here, let me present PS4 AAAs: proceeds to miss more than half of them."

Its an expansion, but I get your point. Regardless, as a person who prefers Sony more and knows Sony's future potential, Microsoft is still pushing Sony to deliver quality IP's in the future by funding new AAA IP's of their own.

Not simply habitual, but intentional and very tactical. They're the only company to support their consoles with 1st party content for as long as they do.

The only company that relies in new IP's.

Several people have listed a lot more AAA exclusives for Sony and showed that you included non AAA things on MS basket to give them the win, but you still insist that MS had the better output. MS isn't pushing any of Sony if we see the sales.
