As we know that DX12 is a very touchy subject for many gamers, espeacily those who want to boycott anything with MS on it. Just wanted to point out that i am in the middle of upgrading my PC to hopefully run 4k with no problem, it is a very expensive upgrade and will take time to find the best deals. DX12 being the future API for many XBox and PC games has me very excited for the technology. From what i hear older hardware will also benefit from DX12.

I know we read articles shooting down or praising DX12 and i honestly couldnt care what the media or the fanboys think. I am looking forward to DX12 for many reasons and not just for my PC but also for my Xbox and Mobile phone.

Regardless on what others think, DX12 games built from the ground up is going to make a difference and if its a free update and only gives and doesnt take then i am not sure what all the fuss is about. Fable Legends will be the first game i try out to witness DX12 and i would give my feedback on what i think. Though i wont be judging if the game will be any good but will be basing it off how my PC and XBox handle the game with its visuals etc.

ANyone else excited for DX12? I know i am.

Please no flame bait stating "But but but Phil said it wont make a difference" garbage.

I'm looking forward to DX12 since I'm also a PC gamer ...

Why would I be excited when I had it for months?

Friendly advice from me, don't go 4k yet. It's not worth it since the hardware still isn't there. SLI is always a suboptimal choice and current highend single GPUs are not up to the task to deliver proper 60fps@4k without having to make concessions. What makes it worse is that not even the current transfer technologies aren't even there yet. DP and HDMI only go so far.

If you're still on 1080p then go 1440p next and in 2-3 years switch to 4k when there's actually the hardware to support it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Wow never heard for dircet is it something new ,?

REQUIESCAT IN PACE

I Hate REMASTERS

I Hate PLAYSTATION PLUS

if you want to game in 4k this is probably the worst time to upgrade, wait for new GPUs as the current super-high-end just barely manages to get to playable frames in 4k in current games (and probably just won't in future games), while the next gen GPUs might see a fairly big improvement in power (jump to 14/16nm from 28nm, HBM2)

I still haven't jumped to Win10 (there's still plenty of time for that), but I'm interested in DX12, mainly to see if all the promises will be fulfilled or not.

Also, as vivster has said, don't jump to 4K yet. At least not with the current hardware. All signs point that both Nvidia and AMD will launch its new cards in the first half of 2016, then it will be the right moment to decide if the jump to 4K is worth it or not.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Display Port 1.3 allows 4k in 120 FPS or two 4k Displays in 60 Fps so it goes far enough.

To OP:

The 980 TI can handle 4k at 30 FPS on max settings. Unless you decrease quality you will need SLI.

It is possible to have a 4k 60fps rig that works if money is of no concern.

Autumn 2016 the new cards should come. 14-16nm GPUs which should handle 4k gaming without issue.

So I would for sure wait with it, however if you have the cash its possible right now or if you are satisifed with 30 FPS or if you are willing to compromise on a few settings.

No, because its a propriatary piece of soctware and Vulkan is also just around the corner.

I'm in the who cares camp... it really makes no difference to me.

I might build a new mini PC next year (been using a mac for a number of years), but I'll just go for the best card I can get that'll fit in the unit... if it supports 12 at that point, yeah fine.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Yes, DirectX 12 is a significant upgrade and even improves current and older hardware - the first DirectX to do so.

It's also cross platform on Mobil and Tablets too, and It's Microsoft's plan to have DirectX THE development platform. OpenGL and the new SteamOS are out there and coming so it's a good plan for Microsoft to keep improving their API.

The advances seem pretty significant on older hardware (i.e. DirectX 11 cards) and more so if they are AMD cards with multiple CPU's.

As you say we have yet to see a native DirectX 12 game, but I would be shocked if we didn't see at least a 20% improvement on the Xbox One. Also, Microsoft will keep refining it, so it will keep getting better over the next few years.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
