Forums - Nintendo - Why are Europeans not more supportive for the Wii U?

I think the main reason is that consoles caught on late in Europe - while NA market was suffering a vg console crash, Europeans played happily their ZX Spectrums and C64s.

Then Sega launched Mega Drive in '90 in Europe and Nintendo SNES in '92....meanwhile, Europeans played their Amigas since '87 (sales of Amiga until '93):

Germany: 1.68M
Rest of Europe: 2.67M
USA: 1.24M
Rest of World: 1.6M

Mega Drive launched almost 2 years before SNES in Europe, and that defined what European console gamers were playing, and later Sony just inherited the audience and PCs took over ZX/C64/Amiga's place.

I don't know, I did my part, i bought a wiiU. And i buy games for it too.
A lot of my friends don't game on console at all though, they're all about pc gaming.
It might also be that Nintendo is more beloved for it's handhelds around here...:/

In Spain it's all about Fifa and Call of Duty. And people don't buy Nintendo because "it's for kids".

I think it has the most to do with their NES and SNES days. That's when they built a lot of their fanbase (homeconsole wise) in America and Japan, but Europe was mostly just an afterthought (It also had yet to become a major home console market.) Why Playstation managed to turn Europe into a very important home console market while Nintendo's offerings failed to catch on is anyone's guess, but obviously software (stuff like Gran Turismo) played an important role. As a result, they didn't build up the big fanbase they have in Japan and America.

Does the Wii U get Fifa?

That answers your question.

You can play Fifa on pretty much anything else as a wii u owner

but if one only really cares about Fifa then they wouldnt get a WIi U in the first place which is probably whats been happening

In our territory, it's almost a requirement to have FIFA and CoD in your console. And Europe was always a Sony-centered market. For example, in my country there's not such things as "consoles", people play "The Play" as a general term. So you get my point.

the call it the Play? thats cool, some of us call it the Four over here

Yeah, all the home consoles are called like that actually. Portables are stil "the Game Boy", and Nintendo portables on this territory sells good.

The title should be rephrased to "Why aren't Europeans buying the wii u?" or "Why is the wii u not selling well in Europe?". I hate when the term "support" is used in that way. It implies the wrong things. Anyway, Europeans find it not that appealing of a product compared to the competition.

I'd love to help but I don't want to buy a console that will be replaced by NX in about a year :

I doubt the NX will be BC

then I'll later pick up a Wii U AFTER NX is released saving an easy 100+€ that'll let me buy a couple more games :v

Hate it or love it, in term of console market. Europe is a land of PlayStation!
It's a hard cold fact :P.
