Forums - Nintendo - Why are Europeans not more supportive for the Wii U?

I wondered about this for awhile, since I live in the US. But from the sounds of it, it sounds like a mixture of preference and history. I've read and hear Nintendo didn't treat EU very well during their strong years, ignoring that base, only providing a few major areas in EU, and having a few language options available.

But then Sony came over and had a full simultaneous release in the EU, having almost all languages covered, having some fine enough games, and getting their 1st main title Final Fantasy game, 7 (Mystic Quest does not count ; ) ) I'm not sure if this is accurate as I'm overly simplifying what I have heard and read, but that's what I got.

Since then, there has been no need for anything else. Sounds like EU is fine with Sony alone.

EU was a difficult place to be a gamer and even more difficult for developers before the PS1 because the market in general was in an erratic state, no company treated it well because the diversity in taste made it hard to crack, localisation was still an issue when it was just English so the multiple languages were an issue. Even when the PS1 came along many gems skipped Europe for the same reason, Sony are more successful in Europe because they made their hardware a strong presence in most of Europe which is the best thing about them as you don't have a hard time buying a PS platform in most of the region but they also benefitted from changing times as companies began trying to crack Europe.

Eu is a place where the can never really only be one platform due to the tastes, the main thing in EU is making your presence known and Sony do that well, if you can market well and get the hardware out on shelves you always have a fighting chance, even if you're not market leader.

Hmm, do Nintendo and MS not have a strong presence in the EU? I've never been in Europe, so I have been curious for a long time.

Depends the xbox 360 did quite well in Europe especially in the UK. Nintendo and Europe don't get along all that much  (exception being the Wii and the DS). Mainly because Nintendo doesn't do racing games and football games all that much. Why Nintendo favoured tennis over strikers is beyond me.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

one could ask why the world isnt more supportive

the reason ? Honestly: because i find the wii u very boring and many people too. The games-publisher are gone.
And the best jrpgs are coming for PS4 in the future: Persona 5, Dragon Quest 11, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 15, Star Ocean 5 and many more.

Do games like Bayonetta 1 & 2, Xenoblade, Project Zero not interest you?

Playstation is to many EU countries like what NES was to america.
Sweden is an exception. Because of Bergsala AB we got the NES around the same time as america and Nintendo systems tend to do better because of it.

Does the Wii U get Fifa?

That answers your question.

You can play Fifa on pretty much anything else as a wii u owner

I hope they will experience the fun, nostalgia and the epicness that comes from some other games, especially Nintendo games Like xenoblade chronicles, Zelda, metroid, splatoon and so on.

Don't worry the Europeans get more fun games to play than any other console by our tastes.  And I don't just mean fifa and cod.  Rocket league was a monster on Playstation in europe and that's as fun as any other game that's released this year.

We get a ton of indie and digital titles like brothers: a tale of two sons,  journey,  rocket league and a ton more.  These games are similar to the Nintendo type fun and experiences except for far cheaper.  Playstation has it all and Europeans have a great variety of taste.  It's why PC / PS dominates Europe.

OMG, you know absolutely nothing about Nintendo xD I was suspecting that already but now I totally know it.

If Nintendo were to make a cross between soccer and Mario kart they would have made rocket league.

Playstation has way more games,  many hardcore,  many casual and many just focused on fun or a unique experience.  Point is the Europeans are perfectly covered by their pc and ps4 hence why they dominate so much.

FIFA and CoD is still really popular in Europe and the Wii U doesn't have either anymore

But honestly, different regions prefer different things so there has to be a region that buys less of a specific console

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Nintendo consoles don't have the genres that actually move consoles; Nintendo consoles mostly have Nintendo games. It might be sad but the bread and butter of the console industry is the annual games that we all know. Nintendo doesn't appeal to that kind of audience, and it doesn't seem like Nintendo is trying to target it. I'm not sure that it can, or if they even should try.

Im Swedish, and im a preatty hardcore nintendo fan, and im 18 and i bought the Wii U at launch, i had it pre-ordered. I did my fair share here xD but anyway hmm UK seems mostly go to playstation, although germany alot of soccer fans go to ps4 and there soccer games. Alot of germans love mario party and mario kart. Sweden is liek the weird one. they just like League of legends, Counter-striker. and those other boring games :P

Well that's better than a country where Fifa is the GOD of videogames, like mine. Some thinks people here buy Ps because variety and all that jazz. Hahaha. Most of Ps players I know play only Fifa and Cod, but they play them on PS because they were used to play PS when they were kids thanks to the popularity of Ps1. There was a long period here where the name "La play" (the ps), was used as synonim of homeconsole even for consoles that were not ps. Just to give you a look of how heavily ps biased this country is xD
