Forums - Gaming - [SSFV] Yoshinori Ono on R Mika Censorship "Dont want to make people uncomfortable"

Regarding the discussion about feminism in videogames and the way the heroines are portrayed in them, “Street Fighter V” has been criticized because of two characters seen as extremely sexualized – including the Brazilian Laura.

In an interview for UOL Jogos, the producer of the fighting game series Yoshinori Ono guaranteed that Capcom wants to erase that notion so that their game doesn’t disturb the female audience.
“Our objective with ‘Street Fighter V’ is to start over from zero”, explains Ono. “We want the professional players and the casual fans of the series to return, but we also want to reach those who have never even touched a fighting game. So we can’t have something in the game that makes people think, ‘This is not acceptable’”.

Originally, the fighter Rainbow Mika slapped her butt during one attack sequence, but the action was removed. That led some fans to question if some kind of ‘censorship’ had occurred.
“We didn’t make any change because of external influences”, reassures Ono. “Those changes came up internally. We decided to remove that because we want the biggest possible number of people to play, and we don’t want to have something in the game that might make someone uncomfortable”.

The objective, according the producer, is to have characters that people like, and not put them off the game. “Probably we won’t be able to remove everything that could offend someone. But our goal is, at least, to reduce that number as much as possible so that they think ‘Ok, there is this issue here, but it is within the limits’. We want that everyone can play and enjoy without worrying about anything else”, he says.

“We didn’t make any change because of external influences”    I call BS on this. Why was it like that in the first place then changed after the first trailer dropped?

Like the DOAX controversy I dont think these games/characters are getting direct criticism so to speak nor do i think "SJWS" are specifically "censoring" games as its much more complicated then that. I think "SJWs" are creating a very hostile environment for these sorts of games/characters through intimidation tactics (weather intentional or not) and publishers are reacting with self censorship in fear for being labeled "misogynist" "sexist" "misrepresentation" ect ect, witch is a very bad thing and a misstep in gaming. Over the past few years women in gaming has been much much better represented and the amount of women gamers has increased drastically and i think thats great, but trying to remove all the "negative" stuff is a bad thing when i think there is room for both worlds.

Thoughts?

Around the Network

Seems like the only way to enjoy these games as the developers intended is to move to Japan.

“We didn’t make any change because of external influences” - I think this is exactly why they made the change. It's been happening in games lately, like in Fatal Frame 5, Xenoblade X, and DoA Volleyball 3.

I think their heart is in the right place though when they want this game to be as accessible as it can be, although a little booty slap I don't think is all that bad... Heck, her outfit showing her but like that probably is even worse, haha.

I'm fine with them toning down R. Mika. Street Fighter isn't DOA, where the fan service is a real part of the game's identity. It's quite possible they want to broaden the appeal a bit.

Dat ass tho :3
