BasilZero said: Almost 10 years later after I made this thread - the statement is more true than ever. Mobile (iOS/Android) which had more games than the consoles is no longer a leading platform for the series. If you predicted that, you predicted it well. So, congratulations.
Mobile has a fatal flaw: it needs physical controllers, so never will be a good player platform. You cannot seriously play a game in a phone just using its touch-screen, so, its games can only be puzzle-like, or easy fast-action. Everything else? is too infuriating for the casual player, including an RPG. That's a shame, but that's true, and that's why Switch 1 changed the scene: cause it's like a tablet, but has buttons and sticks.
"minus XI and XIV because they are MMORPG though I might be getting XIV in the future"
look... i would be very... gentle. (Cause I know there are more people like you, fans of FF, who never played a FF Online game, or never did it seriously):
I can not understand how is even possible, in 2025, Final Fantasy fanboys like you, continue to play any BS SE launch as "Final Fantasy" or with "Final Fantasy" in its name, and just... try to pretend FFXI or FFXIV does not exist or did not really count. Do you read me?
I understood that in 2002, cause... obvious reasons: Online gaming was expensive by then, and FFXI had no way to be played "cheap". It was an exclusive or premium product for many. OK. Right. It was. Also, many people did not even had a fucking PC in its home by then (and FFXI required a demanding machine, to move the game... and not that well, under a f***** Windows 98/Me from that era. Insane). So, the better and cheaper way was getting a PS2 FAT, and getting an expensive upgrade (Hard Disk and Ethehnet connection) to play it, paying, in any case, a monthly fee game (like today). That was... SO much different to the 1 player experience FF got until then... it barely had any sense (also, in Europe, PS2 version NEVER appeared, only PC one in 2004). So, Right.
BUT... Bro... just, just... just fucking get FFXIV and play it, in 2025.
It's fucking FREE until its 3rd expansion, no time limit. You have... like 3 complete final fantasies there, complete, to play free.
I mean... look, I'm not a huge FF fan, I "played" all of them, but never was a huge fan of the saga (although FFVII is possibly one of the MOST important games in the history and have the best intro sequence I've ever seen in my life... and it even gets you right to the action with no loadings and boring texts), but... how is it possible you are not in FFXIV?
I will not tell you to start playing FFXI, I will not. Knew many users of FFXIV that have no balls to do it, even when they are fans of FF, and wanted. FFXI is only for hardcore motherfuckers with old brainsets like mine, capable to digest really old crap gameplay experiences and "disgusting" (i love them) 3D models and extensive and "empty" places... and wastelands... cause had to be originally runned in a PS2 hardware in 15 fps at max, LOL. --->(FFXI has some really nice and beautiful places too, really, but with very old graphics for actual standards)
But... just, enjoy yourself in FFXIV world. It is full of FF references for people like you. And it's beautiful. And more accessible for "noobs in MMORPG" than any other MMORPG. You will be crying joy tears using many mounts and little minions referencing other FF, in few hours. It is not a fucking crazy EVE online or anything like that. Just, don't PANIC when you start the FIRST play, because you will get LOTS of game messages to understand every-fucking thing in your screen and menu, and that can be very stressful for some (even experienced players can run away XD). It's just like... the first 30 minutes. Calm down. Everything will be fine very soon. If you can't remember a shit, don't panic, game is easy to learn.
In fact, FFXI is the contrary. Has NO game message explaining ANYTHING. And, I can tell you, THAT... is INSANE. And was explicitly made like that, almost 25 years ago, to make players ask and interact with other people. FFXI is NOT accessible. Never was. FFXI is even hardcore to install and to make it run. That's the first important BIG enemy of the game: trying to get into that game.
And after that, FFXI will give you pain and suffering, and more pain, and gameplay problems in its old as fuck battle system, and enemies doing you the WORST "agro" (aggresive conduct, persecuting you until the end of the world if you decided to run from battle XD) i've never seen, and every little crap you get... will be painful. But in return... it will give you a huge boost of achievement, and everything important you achive, will be yours FOREVER: you really won it. And the world will continue to open. So, you will love FFXI as you never loved any other game. Is probably my favorite game of all time and I will always preffer it to FFXIV because returning to him, is like returning to your home. So..., don't try it.
Can be traumatic if you are a noob in MMORPG. And you will need to memorize billions and billions of internal mechanics because, fuck, the game is a "massive bully asshole", and even with 2 free Wikis on the internet dedicated only to FFXI, you will suffer as no other game never did you suffer when you are new. And new means... less than 400 hours... AT LEAST.
But FFXIV is great for noobs since day 1. Get it and play it. Is fun and has a great community... (almost always).
Final Fantasy Online games, to me, are the REAL Final Fantasy experiences. Yeah, i know, seems crazy, but THEY ARE. I Despise the people who, loving FF... never played VERY HARD one of those. They are just missing... the best Final Fantasy possible experiences, because yes, they are not turned base, but they are full of real life around. Other adventurers like you, doing solo gaming, doing group gaming, doing boths... there. You can see them. The Online games have not necessarily the best main stories... although, some are fucking amazing... but FF Online games have loooots of "main stories", so some are meh, some are, "Holy craP". My favorite one in FFXI is the Windurst story of the 4th expansion, Wings of Goddess (not the Windurst story of the main/original game: the 3 original city stories are... a little lame by actual standards, but ok), and the first expansion of FFXIV (Heavensward, AMAAAAZING. And AMAAAAAZING MUSIC. Beautiful music in Heavensward places). But i never finished all FFXIV story, only arrived and played until the 4th expansion, so... who knows what 5 and 6 hid).
Just to end: I must say, from some years ago until today, when I see an Offline FF... I see them, as a VVVVVVERY old Final Fantasiy experiences. Even the newer main ones (including FFXV and FFXVI). Offline gaming in FF is, to me, like... man... like a steam train: something of the past that can be beautiful... they can be very nice to use them from time to time... but they are old and you do not want to use it in the everyday life to travel a mid distance, especially if you can use a modern electric high-speed train instead.

I dont think Infinite Undiscovery ever came out on PC. The Last Remnant did but got delisted and a few months later the remaster was released on Switch and Playstation only lol.
Thankfully bought the game before it got delisted though.

This is incorrect and outdated.
Both the dual sense and xbox controllers work with iPhones, I know because I've been playing my games on my iPhone with my controllers.
All of the controllers (Dualsense, Switch pro controller and xbox controllers) can connect to iPhones and android phones since its all bluetooth so the argument about not being able to use controllers doesnt really work anymore. It might have been 10 years ago though but not now.
"I can not understand how is even possible, in 2025, Final Fantasy fanboys like you, continue to play any BS SE launch as "Final Fantasy" or with "Final Fantasy" in its name, and just... try to pretend FFXI or FFXIV does not exist or did not really count. Do you read me?"
What? "Try to pretend FFXI and FFXIV does not exist", the hell you talking about? I never said anything like that.
"but... how is it possible you are not in FFXIV?"
I've played different MMOs (Ragnarok Online, WoW, etc) from 2007 to 2012 and I stopped playing online games because they were a endless timesink and that required playing with other people to actually get anywhere - and that didnt help considering the people I played with werent as focused as me.
I've always felt held back cause I always geared and spec'd my characters while everyone else I played with were slow and just wasting time.
For an example, only took me a week to fully gear in a Private Ragnarok Online server while the rest of a guild I was in didnt even get half of the stuff that they needed in a month.
But anyways, like I said I'm planning to play FFXIV in the future just for the fact that the first 3 parts of the game is accessible for free and they made the game single player friendly which is something that got my interest in.
I'm thinking about starting it sometime after I finish FFVII Remake Intergrade, FFXVI and FFVII Rebirth all of which I'm either playing or planning to play soon.

Oh...
yeah, of course smartphones/tablets CAN use controllers, and since maaaany many years ago, for sure. I don't know about iphones, but Androids? They are Linux systems, baby: Huge driver support there.
I could never managed to use a Switch "pro-controller" made by Hori (not a "normal" pro-controller by Nintendo or cheap one by thirds, but one with a gyroscope inside) in Windows 10. I can swear I searched deeply for PC drivers, official or unnofficial, or ANY other way to make it work: Windows always natively detected it, even using its name, BUT DID NOT WORKED AT ALL NEVER, wathever I did. The only case I can remember I found NO solution at all with one controller in Windows.
But it worked instantaneously in my Android phone via Bluetooth.
Problem with phone games are... I will NEVER play phone games or phone emulators, with controllers, outside home. Is not even easy to do just for physical inconvenience in many situations. Just that. But maybe I'm just me and many do now, so... Ok.
So you have a lot of experience in MMORPG. OK
MMORPG are a huge timesink? YES. but they can be much more fun to play than a 1 player time sinking game (they already exists). I mean, I'm not an expert in MMORPG, I "really" never played anything else than both FF, and I'm not active anymore, so... that's what I can tell. But when I played an MMORPG (FFXI, or FFXIV), I only played that game, for sure.
Better creating cheaper games and keep them console exclusive. Yes i am pointing my finger at high betrayer Ryan!! Ryan is the Judas at Sony!! In the worst case take billions of loss in the first year and get it in by sales and dlc. Thats what i would do if i was in chare at Sony/ MS! Keep away from fucking PC at all costs!!

Not sure about the Hori controllers but I know the official controllers all work.
But ya, I'll be trying out FFXIV in the future, just want to catch up on a few other games (Persona 5, FFXVI, FFVII Remake duology, etc) before I jump into that lol.

LOL? Its the truth!! Why do you think many Nintendo exclusives outsell Sony's? Because i can get GOW, Horizon, GT... on PC as well!! Can you argue as well? I gave arguments on why i would act like i said. Sometimes you have to take a loss. Keep games exclusive PS and Xbox and show those stupid PC fanboys what they cannot play!! If they really like the game some will not wine around (Why not PC??) but just go and buy a damn PS5/ Xbox!! They can spend 1000s of dollars for graphic cards or IPhones every year with minor differences but not a lousy console for a redicolous 500€/$ that will be supported 10 years+? You hate on consoles you simply won't play their exclusives, period!! Thats how Nintendo does it! It would increase sales even further! Yes, i would take millions of loss in the first year to give people a reason to buy my console!
killer7 said: You hate on consoles you simply won't play their exclusives, period!! |
Damn, recently I was told I hate Nintendo and love Sony.
I was told I hated PC and loved mobile devices before
I was told I hated Sony and Nintendo because I have an xbox and enjoying playing on it.
And now I'm being told I hate consoles because I love playing on PC.
Y'all cant make up your minds on this lol.
