Forums - Nintendo - Bold Prediction: Mario Kart 8 will outsell Super Mario Kart

How many units will it sell lifetime?

6-7 million 37 34.58%

7-8 million 34 31.78%

8-8.76 million 14 13.08%

8.76-9 million 7 6.54%

9 million + 15 14.02%

Total:107

It will be close, but I think the NX or the next console will cut the sales short..

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Around the Network

Mario kart 8 has 55% attach rate, each quarter is rising by 1%, instead of falling! The more people who buy a wii u, the more Mario kart 8 sells! It's at 5.87m as of September 30th, only 1 year and 4 monts after it's release!

Wii u seems that will sell 15m at minimum, likely 16-16.5m( Nintendo expects it to be at 13m as of March 31th 2016, ergo it can surely have 2m sales onwards, that's not too big to be unfeasible, gamecube sold 4m onwards with Revolution (wii) revelead in gamecube's 4th year at E3 and with announced release date: after 1year and a half), so Mario kart 8 should be 8m at least...

With some luck ( price drops and maybe no backwards compatability on its successor, as a result securing decent legs) wii u may reach 17-18m at maximum... Then certaintly Mario kart 8 would outsell Super Mario kart... But the successor backwards compatabilty at least fosters the games legs! Mario 8 is a diamond, so people without wii u but with its successor would definitely like to not miss such a great game! Lastly Mario kart wii still pushing big sales, inspite of wii being dead!
Actually, even with wii u being at 15m, Mario kart 8 could outsell super Mario kart, with 60% attach rate, just 5% more than it has now! Keep in your mind people that as I aforesaid Mario kart 8 each quarter is increasing its attach rate!

Make a bolder  prediction than this...Mario kart 8 outselling Mario kart 64 9.87m!:P

Not a chance. 7m max.

It won't beat Super Mario Kart.

But 7m is a joke. Is not even the minimum, is just impossible.

The game has sold (ship+digital) 5.87m by end of September, and has shipped 440k that quarter. It has a bundle with Wii U in both US and EU, and expecially in EU has another bundle with Splatoon.

It will most likely sell double than last quarter, so, probabily 900k or so. By end of THIS YEAR, Mario Kart 8 will be at minimum 6.70m sold.

So, you think it won't sell another 300k in 2016, 2017, and 2018?

I forgot about the bundle that is running on the holidays, still shipped isnt soldthrough so I expect no more than 7.5m soldthrough because I am expecting NX to launch next year causing wii u sales to fall hard.

As for soldthrought this should be correct.

How about "Mario Kart 8 will outsell Mario Kart Wii with 35 million"? :D

Even though this is the best Mario Kart imo, it doesn't have a chance.

Actually it has chance, MK8 having attach rate around 55% all the time, so sales of MK8 on 15m Wii U consoles would be around 8m.

Well I was skeptical of it beating Double Dash, but now it looks like that will likely happen, so yeah, I'll say it could beat the original aswell, certainly deserves to. Also even if the NX releases next year I don't think it's sales will drop off too hard until the next Mario Kart releases, which probably wont be until early 2018.

Wii U's lifetime is nearing its end, i think, maybe 1-2 years? the game itself i doubt it would sell another 3 million even until 5 years. As NX is approaching and a new MK series would come, MK 8 won't be near SMK numbers. unless Nintendo drop the price to $20 or less.

Does the launch of a new console mean that the game doesn't sell anymore? Obviously not. Mario Kart Wii still sells.

I can also see a "Nintendo Select" for $24.99 of something like that.

Are you seriously comparing the Wii and the WiiU and exepect the same results? L.O.L.

Seriously, don't.
