I personally love it. If they had kept the old ATB, it would be a modern gaming joke. The only reason AAA games in the past could get away with it was because they were focused on the cinematic effects of the game. In an age where that's standard, they have to actually be modernized in what is considered good combat- not turn by turn.

I think it looks interesting, I'm cautiously optimistic about it but I'd also like to say turn based games are not a relic of the past for games limited by the technology of the time. There's still great games being made nowadays that use turn-based combat by choice. Bravely Default, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Child of Light are all perfect examples of that.

Every advancement has people who refuse to move forward. It's the reason why going Digital only was such a big, bad deal. People resist change, the same way I resist First Person games.

After taking a close inspection I'm not sure what the bar is doing but it looks like you can indeed chain physical attacks like an action RPG so I guess it's definitely goodbye for turn based combat.and I'm very happy with that change ... ^_^

I also don't understand the disappointment since I remember Crisis Core been well received and that had action based combat but it looks like you can't satisfy everyone ...

Does not look good to me... Looks like ff 15 with a 7 skin on it... No longer interested in buying it... Very very very disappointed....

Not wrong there. It seems gone are the different feel of each FF games like from 6 to X. They need to be more effecient in making these games, especialy as in reality we had only 1 main series title last gen. I'd like to actually see FF16 this gen too you know.

Hmm, pie.

I atually love FF12's battle system and would love a new FF to adapt it and improve on it. But it didn't really remove the strategy element as buffing and such is not permanent and usually wears off in between battles and many challenging enemies removes such buffs as well. So it's actually more challenging that way as you have to think quicker and know when is the best time to cast such buff. I'm sure while FF7R could possibly be more real time and more action oriented, it will still implement a great system of strategizing. Yoshinori Kitase himself said so. So let's wait until they showmore footage that focuses on the gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, FF12 is a great game. I love it. But it lacks what I'd see as traditional FF features. The free roaming and MMO style combat worked in it's environment. Yet the gambits meant you could just walk from one side of the map to the other and most things would be done for you. (I actually only put in a very few things, I liked control).

It actually looks fairly amazing. Better than I expected.

If not turnbased the only chance for me to buy it is if it has similar battlesystem like Chrono Trigger

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I just hope they can keep it as strategic as the original.

I love it so much

Honestly the trailer didn't do it for me. I am not the biggest FFVII fan, but it seems like something is missing from what was presented. As for the battle system, I would've rathered ATB, but what was shown looks okay.
